Hi,
Im thinking of Cyprus as a holiday in january time with my partner, as we've never been before im just wondering if anyone could help me with some questions.
What are the best resorts to stay in? we are both in early 20's and enjoy abit of night life (few drinks in lively bars) and during the day we want to chill out on the beach, or by the pool or looking round the shops and seeing the sights.
What are the prices like? and what is the weather like in january? Could anyone reccomend hotels or apartments? what are the locals like?

Winter, everything tends to be closed down.
The few resorts open, Larnaca, Pathos, possibly Ayia Napa.

Limassol or maybe Paphos would be the best places to stay in January. They are both towns as well as resorts, so many restaurants and bars stay open. In Limassol there are also plenty of clubs, cinemas and theatres.
It is not likely to be warm enough to lounge around for long by a pool or beach, although the days can be pleasant and warm. The nights can be a little chilly. However it is a good time to go sightseeing as you can walk around without feeling too hot!

I'd say Paphos is your best bet as the East of the island (Protaras & Ayia Napa) is all closed up from end of October onwards. plus the weathers not great. I do believe Paphos is slightly warmer and does stay open all year round albeit I'm not certain all the pubs/bars & restaurants are.

Pafos will definitely be your best bet, but please remember it will be winter the same as here, expect the odd day of rain,and the cooler temps,that aside we enjoyed a Jan holiday as it was not packed but many bars and tavernas were open and it was nice to walk the ruins in a sensible temperature as there is little cover,

Larnaca, definitely!
Because of the garrison at Dhekelia and the size of the town almost everything remains open.
Indeed, I know of a Larnaca establishment which is only open from October to June.

Sorry to disagree with a few here. Kazbabe says on holiday they like to chill out on the beach or laze by the pool. I am afraid to say you should consider a different country Cyprus is not really suitable for this in January, you may get some nice weather but you will need a wet suit to go in the sea or pools.

I am living in Larnaca. Its the best choice for winter. Good activity.
