The mosaics at Paphos archaelogical park (right by the car park at the side of the harbour) are a must see in my view. Very reasonable too, appx. CYP2 and if you go on a Sunday it's free or at least it was when we went.

The Baths of Aphrodite (which you have put on your list) are not very big and you can't go in the water there but the scenery along the coast is well worth a visit there. If you like snorkelling then the little bay just down from the restaurant there is great.

I like the market in Paphos and I like having a look around some of the little shops in Paphos old town.

I forgot to mention that if you go to Lara bay, try lunch at Viklari (the Last Castle) Fabulous views, you will see signs to it on the way to Lara Bay. It only does BBQ but it's great simple food for CYP5 a head.

The Lara Restaurant is also good which is right at the end of the track at Lara Bay.

Last Castle maybe closed at that time of the year..but take a trip via Peyia towards Kathikas onto Drousia then Inia village, and to an old Turkish village Androlikou that has been distroyed in 1974 I believe, then drive down into Latchi seeing the fantastic views over Polis bay, and have a fish lunch at one of the harbour tavernas, then maybe go to see the truly spectacular baths of Aphrodite's  then hopefully have a lay down on the beach to sleep it all off.. (you will need that 4x4) now this will be a very different day out!! one you won't forget!

the Viklari taverna (Last Castle) tel 99489000, 26991088 open only in the afternoons. see link below..

It will be too late for the turtles, but I am sure the display with the pics will still be up and Lara Bay is really lovely.

We saw baby turtles in a 'fish tank' in August when we went, the sign said they were releasing them at the end of the month.

We were amazed at the amount of people who were ignoring the signs and putting parasols into the sand!!

If you go up Lara Bay and the Viklari/Last Castle is closed, try The Lara Restaurant a little further on, on the coast.

You can (if you know what to look for) just make out the Viklari, up and to the right of the Lara.

Right, now for the list:

Kolossi Castle
Sanctuary of Apollo
Kourion
Temple of Aphrodite
Kaledonia Falls (Better earlier in the year, when there's some water!)
Kakopetria/Galata/Pedhoulas villages, t'other side of Troodos. There are many other picturesque villages back o' Troodos
Various wineries, scattered around
Polis and Latchi
The road from Polis to Pomos and Beyond the Turkish enclave of Kokkina
Petra Tou Romiou (Aphrodites Rock)
Pissouri village
Snake George's Park
Kykkou Monastery
Paphos town

And that is just the Western end of the island!
The list is not exhaustive, by any means.

Don't bother going too far beyond the Lara restaurant. All there is up there is filthy (flotsam and jetsam) beaches.

The large, upright piece is Trish, by the way.

Wow! Thanks guys.

I want to also take a day trip to Nicosia (last divided European City) and take a walk over the green line into the Turkish sector. I understand it is a bit more lax now? Has anyone done this? (esp in one day)

Also, is it possible to drive onto Akrotiri? Don't know if we will be able to see any wild life on the salt lake?

Last one - is Limassol or Larnaka worth a trip to?

What do you mean by "Akrotiri"?

Akrotiri Peninsular; yes, either from Kolossi or along Lady's Mile Beach.

Akrotiri village; yes, from Kolossi.

Akrotiri Salt Lake; not sure about 'on to' but you will pass it on the road to Akrotiri village. The best viewing time is winter/spring. October might be a little early.

Akrotiri SBA/RAF base; no. Unless you are forces personel or a dependant, or with either of the above.

Does anyone know when the Last Castle closes for the season? Mother-in-law going to Paphos on 4 October and was hoping to go. Thanks.

I thought it was November but I could be wrong - maybe it depends on the weather.

On the bus timetables at the stops it says summer timetable till October or November!

Aaah, there's a bus to The Last Castle is there!

The Viklari/Last Castle restaurant will close soon, if not already. Late September rings a bell.
Give 'em a ring: 99489000 or 26991088

Just got back from Pafos last night. Done just about every single thing mentioned previously!!! I particularly liked my day in the Troodos with the jeep, although we did get lost but it didn't matter. Lunch at The Last Castle was excellent, beautiful views. Polis and Latchi were really nice too as was Pissouri. The only thing I didn't like was Limmasol. I thought it was dirty, smelly and unappealing, I wouldn't go back. The temps were 87 degrees every day with one downpour on the way to Limassol, it rained cats and dogs but quickly cleared up.

Special thanks to all here who really made my holiday with all the recommendations they gave me, I wouldn't have figured half of it out by myself.

Limassol for us is just a place we pass on the motorway.
Haven't stopped off there for years. Not our cup of tea.

Glad you had a good time, chix1.
