We are going to Turkey for the first time in October ( 2 adults & 1 child) and like to know some info on the following.
1) What is the Jeep Safari excusion and is it worth going on?
2) What is the temp like in October and do you need a pullover in the evenings?
3) Are there mozzie around in October?
4) Good value resutraunts in Ole Deniz? ( not everything with chips)
5) What excursions are worth going on?
6) Whats the local wine like?
7) Currency, do I just take sterling cash?
Is it worth me taking my snorkeling gear with me?
9) We are flying into Dalaman. How long does the transfer take to Olu Deniz?
Any other tips and sugestions would be welcome
The weather in October is warm during the day but can get cold in the early morning and evenings last year it was very cold in the evenings had to have a jumper on every evening.
There are still mozzies about.
Lots of restaurants to try all very good value usual to get rice, chips and salad with it all.
The local wine is good but I do not think as strong as we are use to.
Turkish Lira or sterling is fine to take or cards. The smaller shops will want Lira so it is best to have some changed up when you get there, some shops will make up there own exchange rate if you pay in English so watch them.
Yes to snorkelling it is great in the lagoon sometimes the sea is to rough but sometimes ok, the lagoon is great all the time.
The transfer is about two hours on a coach but if you have a private transfer not much over an hour now with the tunnel opening.
Fethiye market on a Tuesday is a good trip on the Dolmus and also Hisaranou market on a Monday and a visit to Kaya the Greek Ghost village near Hisaranou is a good trip.
I love Olu Deniz and will be going back in October hope you enjoy it as well.
We also did the Dalyan River Cruise, which I recommend very highly. This is where the old movie "African Queen" was filmed and it was a very nice day out. This trip also included a mud bath (with showers and/or sulphur pool if required) and we also had an hour at Turtle Beach (which has a reasonably-priced bar for ice-creams, drinks etc)
We also did a boat trip around Olu Deniz one day, this was basically just stopping at various coves/beaches/islands for a swim, which I found rather boring, but the kids enjoyed it. This boat trip went from the main Belcekiz beach in Olu Deniz.
All the trips we went on included lunch, but you have to pay for your drinks.
Can't really help you out with restaurants in the resort because we were All-Inclusive, but as far as money goes it all depends on what you need the money for - sterling is best for buying clothes, bags, shoes and for paying for excursions at the tour agents, but you will need lira to pay for food and drinks in bars and restaurants. There are plenty of places in the resort to change your money and their rate is usually quite good.
Have a good holiday!
I echo pretty much what Cyber and lady say - i did the jeep safari with karacay because the jeeps seemed safer, boat trip was OK but hairy getting on and off. Dalyan /mudbaths good but tiring and don't miss KayaKoy village.
We were A/I but ate out 5/6 times each time (been twice). Certainly not chips with everyting. Enjoy - its a lovely place

We are not after disco's but it would be nice to go to a bar/ resturant where there is a bit of music/entertainment.
We did a trip in July that was Fethiye market in the morning, then you made your own arrangements for lunch, and then a 2 hour boat trip round the harbour after lunch, you didn't get off the boat it just moored up for 45 mins so you could jump in and have a swim. On the way back to the hotels you stop at the Turkish Delight factory, see it being made (and eat as much as you want free ). You can buy spices as well. You'r out from 9 till 5 but it goes quick.
We also did Dalyan delta/turtle beach/mudbaths one day, and the Gorge/Tlos another day, we enjoyed them all. Have a great holiday.
