Have to agree with Robbie. Husband, myself and eldest son have Nationwide Flex accounts. Easy to get money out, no commission charges and good rates of exchange. Son was getting 1.47 from his account when he was in Malia in August.

Yes, I am well aware of the Nationwide giving free ATM transactions abroad. Yorkshire do the same, but charge a commission for the exchange. However, you have to look at the big picture when looking at which bank is best for your needs.

Thanks moderator for deleting that! I only gave the reason why I was banking with Yorkshire and not Nationwide, since someone had told me I should bank with NW to get free ATM withdrawals and no commission charges for exchange!!

Hi

I know as the mod has stated this is a resort forum, but can I just say to wishiwasincrete that you don't have to use Nationwide as your bank for everyday things, we bank with TSB but just use our Nationwide Flex account to put our holiday money in and use it when abroad. We could use our TSB account when abroad but why pay commission for getting your own money out. I think if you read previous posts we were just giving some advise not stating that you HAD to bank with NW.

An interesting point from a discussion with Natwest yesterday following our return from Cyprus.

The ATM would not allow me to withdraw the amount that I wished. This was well within my daily limit.

I was told that some ATMs abroad have a limit as to the amount they will let you withdraw in a transaction irrespective of you own personal agreed limit.

Yes, Nat West are telling you the truth. The stupid thing is that you can simply put your card back into the same ATM and draw out more, so if your withdrawall limit for the day is say £350 and you want to take out 500€ then you may have to take out 2 consecutive withdrawals of 250€ or one of 400 and then 100€ etc....
