Hi,
My friend is hoping to move to Turkey, Marmaris early next year. Actually working for a tour operator. She has had heart problems though and is on daily medication. Can anyone tell me how she would go about getting prescriptions and check ups?
Thanks in advance,
Mary x
Turkey is not (yet!) a member of the EC, so she cannot be treated on a reciprocal basis.
Well done for thinking ahead so clearly because it will take time to sort out a working solution.
I suggest that on your friend's next visit she takes a list of required medicines to a chemist to check if they are available here.
There are private hospitals which should be able to carry out check-ups. Again visit them before hand and find out if they can carry out the check ups.
Failing that that do as Alsacienne suggests.
Thank you both so much. Thats the lines I thought along too. She should be in Marmaris for 8 months of the year, so at least it would only mean 1 flight home for a repeat prescription, thats if she cant buy it over the counter.
As Apollo 11 said you can buy most Medication over the Counter in Turkey. Also you do not need a presciption for most of it.It would be wise to check beforehand.A Full Health check costs around 110 GBP's but you can specify a particular check and you will be charged only for that.A visit to the local State Doctor will set you back around 5 GBP's.
Thank you Rik, that is all very useful information. I have spoken to my friend today.
