If you are looking to combine a nile cruise with a stay in Sharm it would be worth a look at First Choice Egypt brochure.
There are so many hotels in Egypt, especially in the two places you have mentioned, Luxor and Sharm. Your best bet is to have a look at a few brochures, pick out a list of hotels you fancy and then ask for comments from people who have been to them
Remember, if you are interested in seeing a lot of the ancient treasures of Egypt that tourists want to see, then they are mostly, not all, situated around Cairo or along the Nile between Aswan and Luxor. The Red Sea resorts, including Sharm, are fantastic for just relaxing and or diving/snorkelling, although trips can be made to see things like the Pyramids if you dont mind a long journey. You should bear in mind that there is no fishing allowed in most places around the Red Sea, but it is allowed on the Nile and worth doing.
Do feel free to "bung" us a load of questions when you see a few hotels you like.
have done the pyramids/cairo/tombs bit about ten years ago. fishing on the nile looks good so far-thanks for the tip on no fishing in the red sea though. ken
Go get them Nile Perch Excellent eating but watch the TEETH
As said earlier Fishing is Banned in the Red Sea as it's a protected environment to the point that Scuba divers can't take knives OR gloves
is it that bad as i havent heard anyone else complaining- ken
In Cairo you will probably suffer more from traffic pollution than from the smells of the Nile.
One tip - If staying near the Giza Pyramids, then avoid any hotel near the canal (that definately stinks to high heaven).

sorry moderator the original post was by derwent rocker and it was edited by you in -- egypt ideas/hints dated 20/1/04 regards ken ( i read the bottom bit)
i think i have narrowed the choice to luxor (so i can go fishing) have looked at some sites (thompsons) silly money £400 to £800 for B/B when i can get sharm for £369 A1 can anyone reccomend a H/B or A1 near the nile please regards ken
As far as I am aware, there is still only one hotel in Luxor that does all inclusive and that is the Pyramisa Isis, but the reviews i've seen are not that good. You could have a look at the St Josephs hotel. I have stayed there, it is not the Ritz but the service from the staff is "ace" and the food is quite good. They have a rooftop swimming pool with great views over the river.
