I know a man who does but he's not onthis group but a camping and caravanning group called T&T

It's a nive area but I do think you will want a car to explore the whole area unless you just plan on vegging out

There is a bus link to the Ile de Re .... which is an island joined to the mainland by a tolled bridge. I suggest that you try to contact the Ile de Re Tourist Office or La Rochelle Tourist Office. Certainly La Rochelle is worth visiting, including the Aquarium in the Porte de Minimes.

If you want to visit the island, hire a bike! It's flat, but quite windy!

I don't know the campsites that you mention but the island is beautiful, quiet and natural. Enjoy!
