Hi all,
just booked a short break for the good lady and myself and are staying at the Mori D'oriente hotel. I believe that it is situated in the Jewish quarter. There does not seem to be any reviews of this hotel on this site. Does anyone know it or perhaps know of someone who has stayed there?
It will be our first trip to Venice. So if any of you good people who are regular travellers to Venice could give me a few pointers as to the best places to eat, etc away from the rip off tourist places, I would be most grateful.
By the way we are travelling towards the end of January next year and are staing for 3 nights.
Many thanks in advance for any replies.

There are literally hundreds of restaurants in Venice so I don't think it's worth you looking for specific restaurants to go to, unless you have a particular type in mind. Instead, the best way to get value for money is to check out the menu before you sit down. Most places have their menus displayed outside - the tourist menus can be particularly good value. Watch out for service and cover charges which can add a lot to your bill (these should also be displayed) and always ask specifically for the house wine, otherwise you may find you are given a more expensive bottle than you expect. We easily managed to eat out for less than 25 euors per person each night.
