I have 7 Family coming from Newcastle this Friday the 15th. They were called today by Flightline who got them all onto another flight with better times and £130 per head cheaper. Obviously they have had to pay again but will get the refund through ABTA.

I used ct2 flights about 2 years ago for travelling to Tenerife. They had great prices

Anyone else travelling tomorrow or in the next few weeks for christmas, check out the likes of freedom flights, xl, jet2, thomsonfly etc. Alll have flights to TFS from a huge range of UK airports - generally on a friday. May cost you more in the short term, but atleast you'll save your holiday and potentially your christmas!!

Good luck to all :)

To everyone caught up in this CT2 fiasco, Jet2 have just added extra capacity and flights on the 22nd Dec and 2nd Jan. Those Christmas and New Year trips might not be ruined after all. It's a shame that at times like this the exploitative greedy face of capitalism comes to the fore with BA charging £500 for a single and Monarch at £700 return. In comparison my Jet2 return was £300 cheaper.

Regardless of the collapse of CT2 you'd still be paying those sort of prices for a scheduled service at this short notice at this time of year. Christmas and new year will always attract premium prices and one of the reasons why cheaper prices are available at other times is because companies can afford to cross-subsidise in order to fill planes at quieter times or at less convenient times. Even when trying to book several months in advance I was being quoted over £800 for returns to Tenerife for the October school half-term week with BA and over £500 with Monarch. If I could have booked around this time last year I'd have got a very good deal from either of them. As it turned out the best value deal was with LOCO! Whenever you book, Jet2 are likely to be amongst the cheapest on a route like this.

I have just been phoned by The Travel Shop who we booked our flights through on internet for February.

They were very good and found us almost identical flights with First Choice from Bristol.

I hadn't even realised our flights were affected as we booked on the internet and hadn't taken much notice of the actual air company!

It was a bit of a shock but at least we have been found alternative flights and it could have been worse - we could have been going next week!

I hope you all find other flights and manage to have a good Christmas.

We have had an absolute nightmare!
Found out yesterday that our flights were with CT2> We booked with Airflights and didn't even know!
The original cost of our flights, (which we booked in October) were £280 each flying from manchester.
Today had to fork out £439 EACH to travel boxing day from Manchester and return 06.01.07 to EAST MIDLANDS!

I think it's disgusting how other tour operaters have almost doubled their prices, to make a huge profit from other peoples misfortune!
How the hell can they get away with this!??
If anyone has got any advice on making compensation claims, then any information would be greatly appreciated.I am going to try and see if we can claim the £159 extra we have, had to pay, plus interest added on my credit card. I know it is highly unlikely but maybe worth a try........?

Hi Kelly ... I can appreciate how infuriating it is, but I'm not sure if there is any evidence that other companies have doubled prices in order to take advantage of CT2/Loco customers' misfortunes. So close to Christmas, it's possible that competitors' fares were pitched at this level before the CT2 collapse. If CT2 were still in business, it's possible that their fare today would also be around the £439 level.

The travel company I have been dealing with have given me the information about prices being doubled, and another firm I spoke with on Thursay also told me this.
One company went to book the tickets and by the time he had filled the names in the price ahd gone up another hundred pounds! Sorry, but i'm dissagreeing with you on this one!

I also visit moneysavingexpert.com web site.

there was a request from someone who had lost flights and was due to fly 22nd dec - 5th jan. He wanted 4 adults and 2 kids.

The cheapest he could find was £2 5000

He asked could anyone find flights cheaper.

I found flights with thomascook for him at a total of £1 200

which wasn't much more than he had paid.

so there are reasonable flights out there you just have to look

Not a problem Kelly, feel free to disagree if you have been given evidence to prove such disgraceful practices.

My only point is that taking account of supply, demand and the close proximity to the festive season peak holiday period, prices would most likely have risen anyway (perhaps doubled) even if CT2/Loco hadn't ceased trading. But if there is evidence that some companies are also taking the demise of CT2/Loco into account, then that is very disappointing indeed.

The problem we faced was flying out on boxing day and returning on 05.01.07.
Myself, a colleague and my friend were on the internet all afternoon and ringing travel companies trying to find the flights which were either not available or silly prices (£1,200 for 2 adults) so I did look hard enough wickedchris!
I was offered various other dates the same as the 4 adults and 2 kids, however, these did not match the accommodation that we had already paid for! (The prices for flights in these dates were slightly cheaper)
A friend of mine also booked a flight last Thursay with Thomas Cook and only piad £269, so I do not believe that these prices have just rocketed due to the time of year!
