Having done a fair amount of research into this country there has been an off and on debate. The debate being whether ladies can wear shorts, and t.shirts.

There is no law over in egypt to suggest you cannot wear these clothes, BUT, yes a big but, the temperatures in this country can hit 140 degrees in the shade in the summertime, even in winter it is hot. So it is a safe bet unless you are not extremely careful you will faint and burn your legs. The heat is very severe, and even the darkest of people will burn. The best clothes that are recommended by the egyptians, i know as i am in close contact with one, suggest wearing only cotton, loose trousers, and a 3/4 length blouse(cotton) or long t.shirt, you will definately require a base ball cap, or big sun hat, going into religous places you will need to cover your shoulders, head and feet. Sandels are not a good idea, sand will get into them, if you are in the part where there is sea, also the sun will burn right through them. Wear sensible shoes that arent completely flat, eg, trainners. Shorts, whether long/short ones will be frowned upon here in egypt, the ladies may get hassled, or followed by a randy egyptian!. You will want to keep them covered, cos when you sweat, it will run down your legs and make you feel dead uncomfortable. But as i said, it is not banned, but it is there country and they don't like you wearing them, whether you do or not, is up to you! Men can wear them.
