We are going to Tenerife for two weeks in March to celebrate our 25th wedding Anniversay, on the Anniversary itself we would like to have a special night out, any ideas. we are styaing in Los Christianos. we like all types of food but Hubby is not that keen on Italian.
It is our first time in Tenerife so have no idea where to go.
Thanks
Dawn
You could try El Faro's at Parque Santiago 5, or maybe Mamma Rosas at Colon 2. Both excellent restaurants with high standards.Have been to both and thoroughly enjoyed
In my opinion,I would have an excellent meal at Slowboat Teppanyaki (for Sushi, Japanese,Thai,Chinese food) at the Safari commercial centre (at the Los Cristianos end of PDLA) and then go to the show at Piramide de Arona, just across the road, at the Mare Nostrum Resort, and if you feel like having another few drinks and maybe a dance when the D.J.comes on, I'd go to Bar Buda opposite the Hotel Tenerife Princess...lovely bar, with great cocktails etc.
All in, that would be a special night out and these places are all within walking distance of each other, including Bar Buda which is just at the back of Parque Santiago 5.
As an alternative to Bar Buda,if you fancy taking a taxi or a slightly longer walk, after your meal etc.,I'd also say Jazzissimo would be somewhere to try for a special night out.
re:Slowboat Teppanyaki..best to book a table in advance,as it's very popular and always busy. The staff speak excellent English and the phone no. is (0034) 922 79 53 95
Here's links for the show, and Jazzissimo, just in case you haven't seen these before.

and some recent articles in Tenerife News online about both.

I have to agree, El Faro is a great restaurant and the food and service is out of this world, but isn't what I would call a 'special' place as it lacks a little atmosphere. Also, I am not a fan of the Piramide d'Arona.... we've stayed in the Mare Nostrum once or twice a year for the past seven years and usually get a freebie there. Again, it's OK, but it's not special, and sometimes it feels a little kitsch. Maybe we've just overdone it. Although El Faro and the Piramide would be a good night, for me it would not be a great one, and 25 years deserves a great one!
IMHO, if you are after a special evening with excellent food and wine, lots of romantic atmosphere and music whilst you eat (usually a violinist playing the classics, and a tenor singer that could come straight out of Il Divo), dancing (the romantic sort) and very special service, then I would check out El Molino Blanco (the white windmill) in San Eugenio Alto. It is just fabulous for this sort of occasion. Meal for two with Champagne should be around £150-ish, but worth every penny.
El Patio on the seafront in the Jardin Tropical was also fabulous in its day, but again not quite so romantic as the above. I've also heard that it was closed down, so maybe that's not an option.
Alternatively, for great food but a little less atmosphere, there is an excellent restaurant in the Bahia Del Duque. Nice place too.
But if you really want to push the boat out I would do the following....
Go into the Cleopatra in the Mare Nostrum and ask to speak to the restaurant manager in the club house. Tell them that it is a very special occasion, and ask them if they could organise a table on the beach for you and your other half, complete with torches and waiter service from their restaurant. And then push the boat out with the food and wine. I've seen them do this before, although for people staying in the hotel. It looked the real deal!
Good luck!
Wish I'd got a "freebie" to the Piramide de Arona on the many, many occasions I've stayed at the Mare Nostrum!!! Perhaps you have to stay at one of the less ordinary/ newer Hotels to get this..i.e.not the Mediterranean Palace.???
Will have to make enquiries when I eventualy go back,I think.
Had planned on going to http://www.molino-blanco.com in October, but somehow we ran out of days! Looks really lovely.
Bianco which is on the upper level of the Safari centre directly opposite the Paramide de Arona is an exceelent choice for a special occasion. The food is excellent and the bar specialises in fantastic cocktails. The bar staff really show off throwing bottles and glasses around when making cocktails.
Ooh! I was going to suggest Bianco too Daverock, but read that Dawn's hubby isn't keen on Italian food. But,hey! I'd encourage them into the bar at least. Great food,restaurant,bar...mmm the bloody mary's... and live music from the trio Funkadillo on several nights.
To be honest I am not a big fan of Italian food myself but I found Bianco's had a lot more to offer than the usual pizza/pasta dishes and would have no hesitation in going back.
Quite right. Totally agree..it is wonderful food. (and apparently..according to one of the nice waiters... the two head chefs are from Naples)
we are there for 2 weeks and it is our first time there so I really needed this input, Gosh a table on the beach sounds so romantic
I will let you know what we did ( well the eating and drinking bit anyway LOL ) I know where ever we decide to go it sounds like we will have a brilliant Anniversary Dinner, and a great holiday.
Thank you all so much
Dawn
