I had been monitoring this dilemma whilst it was developing but it seems now that a decision has been reached.
Bangkok will shortly have 2 international airports.... yes, they are re-opening Don Muang to International flights.
This is all due to the deterioration or runway/taxiways at Suvannabhumi (nicknamed Swampyboom) and most recently damaged airbridges resulting in long delays and flights being diverted.

Apparently Don Muang will be open within 45 days.
Pesonally it means little difference to me apart from an extra 200 baht or so in the limo.
It isn't clear which airlines will transfer back to Don Muang.... I'll keep my eyes open.
the airport hotels around Don Muang will be delighted.
Sounds like chaos for those transferring from internal to international flights...how long does a land transfer between airports take...still good news for the Bangkok taxi drivers.
So will the real BKK please stand up...I wonder which airport will get to keep the code.
From what I can see it is a temporary measure.... heard that one before??... so Dom Muang will remain DBK and Swampyboon will stay as BKK
The only thing that passengers are assured of is that they'll be a whole load more news stories about it until Don muang actually re-opens . . . . or not . . . or only partially . . .Or maybe Don Muang is open on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays and you land at Suvanabhumi on the other days of the week. Simple.
