Watched 'A place in the sun' on channel4 last night and was shocked that Turkey was not in the 20 top places to buy property abroad. What's going on with Turkey at the moment?
I'm going for the first time next May and am looking forward to it very much but keep reading stuff like Turkey tourism is dead etc, and even some peeps have been surprised when I said we were booked for Turkey next year. I can't comment on the place yet but a bit of reassurance would be appreciated.

IF REASSURANCE is what you need you've got plenty of reading to do......just flick through the thousands & thousands of pages on this forum and you will get all you want... WAKI..xx
Silly programme makers, don't have a clue! You just have a wonderful holiday and you'll see why we all post on this site so much!
i too watched the programme and i think it was applicable to eu countries or those about to join, and the prog was made in 2005 before turkey was "invited " to participate.
correct chelsea boy that is the way i seen it . it was mostly E.U. countries, dont worry groovybaby go on holiday and then make up your mind , turkey is a great country , and the tourist industry gets stronger and stronger , no matter what is thrown there way
In addition I would not want to judge any holiday destination by its investment prospects. Holidays and investment potential do not necessarily go together. For those of us who have been to Turkey many times it is the people, food and weather which draw us back year after year. I have no intention of buying a property in Turkey but every intention of returning for (hopefully) many years to come.
Do not be put off travelling to Turkey by what Amanda Lamb does or doesn't say!! Go and have a great holiday.
dont worry about it, Turkeys tourism was certainly not dead when i was there in June.
Waki is right there is plenty to read on here, its the most used and biggest forum on holiday truths, i think.
The members on here alone could probably keep Turkey`s tourism running

Don't worry, you'll have a great time in Turkey. As people have said it wasnt a programme about holidays it was a programme about making money. The best place to make money on property is errrr well England. She even commented on England probably winning the World Cup. thats how out of date it was.
Quite a few people were suprised I was going to Turkey this year its often not percevied as a good holiday destination by lots of people. Just go and enjoy yourself. You will.
We went to Gumbet a few years ago, the climate was fantastic, the people were friendly and the food & drink were both enjoyable & cheap by anyones standards. Not the best resort we've been to but we enjoyed ourselves.
We went back to Turkey this year and stayed in Olu Deniz, this time we had a fantastic holiday, the resort was fab. The climate was fantastic, the people were friendly and the food & drink were both enjoyable & cheap.
In Turkey, it would appear that you are almost garanteed fab weather, the natives are very friendly, they feed and water you very well, and what you can get for your £'s is more than fair, you just have to be lucky to get the right resort for you.
We're trying Icmeler next summer and whether we enjoy the resort or not I bet you that the weather is good, the people will be friendly and the food & drink will be both enjoyable and cheap
The first time we went was Xmas 2003. Cold and wet (the weather) but the people warm and friendly. Wow! been back 5 times since, different places each time. made Turkish friends and keep in contact with most of them
What can I say!
Enjoy the weather, the food, the culture, the people and make friends. You will probably return year on year
Westglam, Icmeler is our favourite resort with Kalkan a close second. All being well, you will come back saying just how much you enjoyed the place. It is in a fantastic location, we would like to retire here but it is the most expensive place to buy a property. Again, the people are brilliant. Take a look at my recommendations for Restaurants on the Icmeler Forum, not a bad meal anywhere.
We have booked 2 weeks in Kalkan Cruisecontroller. We plumped for that cos we wanted somewhere smallish and villagy. We also got friendly with a Turkish couple over here who said that Icmeler is very englishy with lots of english pubs, etc, a bit like Benidorm only much smaller, not that theres anything wrong with Benidorm Now if it was like Marbella.....................
Just lurve Kalkan only 61/2 months until we are there again..............not that I am counting
We've Booked up to return to Kalkan to the same Hotel as last May and we are going out on 20th Sept. If you go to the Kalkan discussion forum you will find my recommendations for Restaurants, the last post on here was on 2nd Feb. By the way, we are staying at Hotel Nur just fifty yards from where the weekly market is held.

kalkan is a lovely place , and i am ure you will enjoy it
tv programmes never seem to do the country justic anyway you have to try it to believe it
Especially wonderful are the views if you eat at one of the places with a roof terrace, majic !!!
Lots of little shops to browse, not much of a beach though, people friendly (as usual) I am sure you will love it, like the rest of us.
Icmeler is totally different but just as nice, much more going on, not a bit like Blackpool or Benidorm, we all like different things, so let us know when you get back.
we go to bodrum area, great for teens, biggest open air disco in the world.great places nearby .yalikavak. gumusluk.turgetreis.gumbet.ortakent. all these resorts within 30 mins of bodrum[ bit longer on dolmus, but cheap fare] regards investment we bought over 2 years ago 3 bed apt on english complex by the sea,it is worth £15000 more now .dont believe agents when they say double your money o/night, but it will go up in value. tip buy new if you can as building regs are much tougher for new build. i love it ,i can get on plane go when i want ,with no luggage [just shouldre bag] i would not buy in bulgaria [heard too many horror stories[ singing pig forum].
I have been to Icmeler on2 occassions & I have to say that after Florida it is my favourite destination.my wife has been 4 times & likes Turkey so much she is going to Alanya at the end of Feb & we are back in Icmeler in Sept so there is no problem with Turkey as far as we are concerned.
You all are so lucky going to Turkey this year I think we will miss not going there, as we miss it already now but I've promised my daughter we will go there next year come what may, and maybe even this year if we win the lotto after we return from my son's in Elizabethtown, U.S.A., and my brother's in Conneticut, my hubbie will be celebrating his 50th., while we are there and my 2 eldest son's 27th., and 26th., they sound all grown up to me now but really there're still giant babes not so far from your arms and heart., but we will be back in Turkey next year so love to all of our friend's and aquantances, and holiday makers, bye Claire.
