Hi, I hope someone here can give me some advice, I'm stressing like mad!
I've just booked my first holiday to Malta and stupidly didn't look up the hotel until after I'd booked, and now loads of reviews i've seen of the place are terrible.
Have I made a major mistake? It is the hotel Karanne in St Pauls Bay. Has anyone been here or know anything about it? Should I cancel before it is too late and look for somewhere else? I wanted a nice holiday for me and my girlfriend over easter so it is expensive travelling at that time anyway, I can't afford to lose alot of money on a bad holiday!
Thanks to anyone who can advise me!
Is there a possibility you could change your hotel with the company you booked it through.,worth a try.
Who did you book holiday with?
Must admit i have just looked at reviews on Tripadvisor and they are not good at all ,most have mixed reviews but sadly all bad on Tripadvisor.
I would deinetly go with trying to change hotel.
One word or warning - 4 stars in Malta does not always mean 4 stars - the ratings there are a little misleading. One hotel which in my opinion is 4 star is the Coastline in Salina Bay - might be worth you looking at that.

I agree looking at the reviews i would try to change. you may just need to pay a small amendment fee
I only managed to stay at this hotel once and personally it was worse than i expected. I really like the island of Gozo and we are visiting Gozo again next week for the 25th time in less than 13 years! We always get a self-catering villa, and for this i recommend gozobreak.com. They always offered us excellent service and have nice farmhouses. They are even offering fully inclusives now! Check them out and try to negotiate a deal with them!
If you want a decent but not overpriced hotel in that area go with what Pippa has said and change to the Coastline!
We're off there for the third time on 10th March, in fact it'll be my wife and son's 4th visit. We were there for a fortnight during last August. Would we be going there again if the place wasn't any good?
Clean well kept hotel with friendly professional staff, food excellent, facilities good and there is daily and evening time quality entertainment that is sadly missing in many Maltese hotels. The only downer is that the Hotel is just a bit out of the way but does have a free regular courtesy bus to Qwara/Bugibba.
Go on mate treat your girlfriend and yourself to this Hotel it'll be worth any extra you have to pay!

In our opinion The St Paul's area of Malta can be a bad place for a first time visit to Malta as it is very tacky, scruffy looking and blackpooly, we passed through it again last week and it's not pretty the slimeshare louts don't help either, Pebar what company have you booked your holiday through, if it is a Malta specialist then you could easily move to Sliema or St Juliens, if you let me know I might be able to help you.
If anyone has stayed at this hotel would they please add a review by
Nice to hear that you're back. Hope you had a good time (fancy me saying that to you!). I've sent you a PM!
Pebar,
Although my favourite area is Sliema a major reason for choosing the Coastline Hotel is because I can park my hire car since past experiences have made me realise that it's a nightmare trying to park in the very busy Sliema! If you're using bus transport then Sliema is certainly a better choice in my opinion and I shall no doubt hopefully be having stays in Sliema + bus holiday breaks in the future.
The Coastline Hotel is positioned well away from the St Paul's Bay area and as I have said it is a very good Hotel. I have to agree with the comments made by Sliema2 since we also find the St Paul's Bay area rather tacky. However, it's really each to his own and I guess there are those folks who are really looking for the kind of holiday (but without the slime share touts!) that's on offer around the St paul's Bay area. We never hang around anywhere particularly because we literally make the most of any visit to Malta by visiting as many places as we can and even now we always seem to discover somewhere or something new whenever we go.
As a matter of interest the last time I was accosted by time share freaks I was walking along the Strand by the Ferries in Sliema...Hmmmmm!

Ps, slimeshare still at ferries and the strand, they don't bother with us much now as they know they won't be getting anywhere plus a few of them think that I am Maltese as I have got the accent well off, and can speak a fair bit now anyway, must look tanned and Mediteranian in my sun giggs .
Nice one Sliema2!
