Hi
Can anyone suggest somewhere to go for a weekend - Fri PM - Mon PM. Within no more than a 3 hour drive from Wirral. Family of 4, cottages? boating? and reasonably priced. Just realised hubby is off on a long weekend and his birthday is on the Monday and we will have started the Easter holidays from school. (It is the weekend before Easter)
Any suggestions welcome.
Thanks
Irene
Alton Towers? ... just to start the ball rolling!
Thanks for your ideas.
Llandudno is a day out for us and we often go on a Sunday. We have done both Scarborough and York - both really nice and we will go back probably for about 5 days later in the year.
Dublin is something I will look at and weekend narrowboating at Preston Brook or Worsley sounds of interest.
Alton Towers is out my sons are not keen on heights - thank goodness I don't have to pretend!!!!!
Will start looking now -thanks again.

Hire a narrow boat at Stourport, a canal area built by James Brindley, and travel as far as Llangollen, Chester etc.
A trip on the Severn Valley Railway from Kidderminster taking in Georgian riverside Bewdley, Arley with a wonderful pub called the Harbour Inn, Highley and then stunning Bridgnorth with it's High and Low Towns connected by a cliff railway and stunning views from the castle.
The Wyre Forest itself. Thirteen square miles of accessible forest, some is quite deep and only for experts, with plenty of scope for bike riding etc.
The West Midland Safari Park with the White Lions and a fairground for the kids.
Within striking distance of Worcester (Cathedral, shopping, Worcester Porcelain, Elgars birthplace) and Birmingham (Shopping, canals - reachable from Stourport by boat - shopping, er...and more shopping)
Also the Cotswolds are not too far away, Evesham is a nice place too.
All worth a think and it also encompasses all you ask and something for all the family.
There's also football at Aggborough on Easter Monday against Woking. That's where I'll be
Thanks for these suggestions more homework 4 me
We have family in Bromsgrove wouldn't be that far away would we?
Will keep this a secret as if eldest son gets a whff of footie we will be there Youngest son not that bothered but he would love the railway
Any caravan sites/cottages int he area do you know?
Thanks Irene
Plenty of caravan sites around here. Lickhill Manor, Lincomb, Walshes Farm. All in Stourport.
Little Lakes, Northwood Lane, Button Oak. All Bewdley.
Can't think of any in Kidderminster.

Had a fantastic weekend in Shropshire once. Visited Ironbridge and Blists Hill which is a fantastic open air `living` museum. The staff are all dressed in costume. You can change your money for old coins and buy stuff in the shops. It`s a bit like Beamish (another great day out in County Durham). Or come to Leeds there are some cheap weekend breaks. You can go to the Royal Armouries, watch the jousting etc lots of places around to visit.
You and I think on the same lines - all those places you mentioned we have visited. It getting harder to find places that we have not been to and that our eldest son will still want to go with his mum and dad, he is 15 this year and I don't suppose he will want to do many more weekends away with us 'oldies'
I will keep looking
