Can anyone tell me if there is a bus between Luxor and Alexandria, and how long it takes...
Also, recommend me a hotel in Luxor, I can't chose betweeen Sonesta St George or teh Sheraton.... which is the most central?
Don't know about the bus, Perfume but my choice of hotels in Luxor would be the Sonesta, without a doubt!

Have stayed in a Sonesta in Sharm before..... Luxor deals are much cheaper..... still deciding..... do you get a breeze from the Nile.... I'm a sea air girl you see........
You do realise its well over 400 miles and Cario is in between? I have heard there is a train to Cario from Luxor so may be that would be worth looking at or even a flight!

Having travelled many times on the 10 hour bus journey to Sharm from Alex, It's the frequency of the bus I need to know about...... my other half is in Alex..... he's used to the buses...... and I'm sick of visiting Sharm, and Alexandria means family family family and no time for "us".....

I have stayed at both the Sheraton & Sonesta, but would always recommend the Sonesta.
Staff are fantastic and it is in more central location.

If you want to be central, the Etap (now known as The Mercure, Luxor) is the place to stay. A short stroll to Luxor Temple, the ferry to W Bank, shops, bazaar etc. The Sheraton is way down the far end, and the Sonesta, whilst in an area where there are bars & restaurants, is a long walk from the centre.
I would suggest taking the overnight train from Luxor to Cairo (arrives around 7am in Cairo) and then take the train from Cairo to Alexandria.
Reserve 1st class A/C seats on both journeys.
Get the ticket seller to write the Carriage number & Seat number in English on the back of your tickets. We've done this journey both times and believe me, it's necessary
It's very cheap and the train seats are very comfortable. For a bit extra - you can reserve the overnight sleeper train at $60pp.

Not sure where you're from but there are some great internal flight deals Luxor to Cairo etc at the moment if you book online in the UK with Egyptair before you visit. Some people have got these for as little as 28pounds pp return. Worth a look.
Pefume... nae breeze from the Nile I am afraid... but more exciting than the sea!
There has been a lovely breeze from the Nile this evening & there often is. However, we have had a week of fairly still days & very high temps for the time of year. Summer has begun!!!
When I was there in August there was nae breeze whatsover... in the 50s!!!!!!
