Hi Guys,
We are looking to get wed in the Carribean or Mauritius and want luxury and lovely beaches etc! we also would like a jacuzzi in our room
any ideas?
can anyone recommend any trips to go on? Unfortunately the information is not for me- but a relative . Also, a rough idea of how much they cost would be handy.
Sorry I cant give you any costs as my last trip was six years ago and just can't remember.
We were based at the Silver Beach hotel on the east coast in Trou D' Eau Douce ,would have loved to stay at the Le Touussrok but couldnt afford it. A boat trip to the Ile aux Cerfs is a good idea from here,
As Mauritius isnt a large island, with the help of the Lonely Planet guide we planned our own trips and hired a taxi, north south and central a day each.We found this better than the organised trips as we could go to just where we wanted and make stops for photos when we saw something interesting. The Hotels have the same system as in India with their own taxis, and they will also want to take you shopping! If possible try to find a local taxi outside the Hotel it will be much cheaper. We used the local buses for trips to Centre De Flacq ( just Flacq to the locals and very indian with good local market ) from here you can get connections to the rest of the island
My personal tips--
Grand Bassin- beautiful location and Hindu Temple
The Hindu Temple at Poste De Flacq, another lovely setting
Black River Gorges and Tamarin Falls for the views
The Botanical Gardens pamplemousses
ps--- They say its raining somewhere on Mauritius every day of the year! so be prepared for some showers, it was the unpredictable weather that put us off going again after two visits
thanks for that! I'm going to print it off and empahasise the taxi option to them! Re rain- yes and they are going in June( didn't want to say too much about rain to them as they are going for a wedding, just said it was likely to rain sometimes!)
I would endorse lassigirls advice and add a trip to 'Eureka' which is an old colonial mansion/museum which doubles up as a good place for lunch. Stunning building and wonderful gardens. It's close to a village called Moka just south of Port Louis.
As an alternative to Taxi's car hire is pretty reasonable over there. They drive on the left and apart from Port Louis, which is always stuffed, the roads are good and empty by English standards. I have always used National Car Hire.
The Lonely Planet guide is brilliant. Been twice in the last 4 years independently and found it invaluable.

thank you Matthew. Never gave car hire a thought but driving on the left makes it a good idea
Can anyone tell me what there is to do outside of the hotels in mauritius.
I am looking at Belle Mare Poste de Flacq in particular.
appreciate any help

Have a look at the Mauritius Tourism website. There's plenty of information about things to see and do while on the island. I'll be joining you in September!

Has anyone been to Mauritius in August? Thinking of going next year but not sure if the end of August would be ok or if it is likely to be cool or rainy.
you wont have problems with rain. The average temperature in August is approx 21degrees C.
Does anyone know of any hotels that allow 2 adults and 3 children in a room?
