I was told (cant remember who) that there are in fact scorpions in turkey, however they are seldom seen in populated areas, they tend to stay in the mountians. I cant remember the source of the information, could of been a holiday rep whilst there, or a local.

just be careful lifting stones, flowerpots etc... they like to hide in the shade and ambush insects that go under there. I have seen 2 types, black and brown(most common) they give a nasty sting that can be very bad for babes and the elderly. If stung go to the doctor or pharmacist immediately in case you have a reaction to the bite. The Turkish word is for them is akrep.
The odds of you seeing one inthe resort is minimal.

I saw a dead one in Cyprus (Pernera), just outside my apartment terrace.

I think Turkey & Cyprus would be pretty similar for wildlife.

But then again I stayed at a place in (Cyprus again, lol) Pathos that had LOADS of small geckos (lizard type things anyway) running up the outside walls of the buildings. I've never even seen one in Turkey, but my sister has (seen one).

I saw some reptile type creatures in the Ampitheatre in marmaris last year. I have a photo somewhere too they were curious things.

Whilst at Siesta Beach apartments in Gumbet 2 years ago, 1 scorpion was seen outside someones room and another was removed from someones room  The Siesta Beach apartments are the last building on the bay then there is nothing, the complex is different to say the least, with some apartments very low with loads of foliage etc. saw a few yellow lizards running around the walls as well, I also didn't know about scorpions being in Turkey till then. The scorpions were only small so not sure what damage they could cause...... :?

Spiders are small too, but they eat your brains! :-) Scorpians just look menacing nomatter what the size, I wouldnt risk getting close to one even if they are non-venemous.

There are quite a few different types of scorpions in turkey, and although all are venemous , very few stings result in serious illness or death, like a lot of things the very young and the very old are mostly at risk. They tend to stay hidden under stones and out of the heat ,they feed on insects ,and are as frightened of you as you are of them.In the unlikely event of being stung i have posted the link below to help with what to do. Better safe than sorry.

I have seen a scorpion every 5 years or so at average, including the dead ones (I live in Turkey). Dont go barefoot or with slippers into vegetation during summer. Same comment with snakes.

None of the scorpion species in Turkey are deadly as far as I know, but might be painful, and you'd probably have to go to a hospital for some antidote or just in case you have allergy to it. What is not deadly for an adult may kill a small child, so prevent your toddlers from running into bushes.

Don't worry too much about this, they are very rare. You are probably as likely to get struck by lightning in rainy weather.

Saw lots of small lizards in Side but nowhere else. Seen jumping spiders when we stayed at the back of Marmaris once.

there are scorpions..and as re Chelsea Boys advice about lifting stones etc..be careful.
Although they are not usually life threatening they do deliver a nasty sting..and some people react more than others.

the best first aid is to apply ice to the sting..to slow the blood flow..and get medical help as soon as posible.
..same goes for venomous spiders.

however.....if you are unfortumate enough to get bit by a snake the First Aid is different....and since you wouldnt know if it was poisonous or nonpoisonous treat it as poisonous.....

dont panic..avoid excessive movement...so the venom is transported slowly....the poison usually takes from 2 hours upwards for a vipers bite.
panic may make you or your helper think its the poisons effect..so stay calm...this is the best advice.
apply a splint and a pressure bandage to the bite..and get to a hospital...dont suck dont cut ..dont apply a tight tourniquet to the bite...this is dangerous as the blood supply to the area is vital to avoid later complications to local tissue.
