We stayed at the Merengue last year and the year before. We walked up to the Mambo a couple of times and had lunch there and it seemed fine.
Of the three the Mambo seemed the quitest and the Bachata the busiest.
Apart from your evening meals you can use all the other facilities of the other hotels.I can't comment about the rooms in the Mambo, but if they are anything like as good as the Merengue you will be fine.
For some reason the Bachata is usually more expensive than the other two.

A large group of us stayed in the Merengue last year. A few friends left it late and could not book for the Merengue, so they went next door into the Mambo. Although it was smaller generally, they were very happy with the facilities offered. Their rooms were fine, and of course the beach at that end is great.
I think the set out of the swimming pool is the nicest of the 3 hotels.
We ate in their restaurant for breakfast and lunch, again no problems. I think I would book there in future as it is usually quite a bit cheaper. Nothing to stop you using all the facilities in the other hotels.

We usually stay at the Iberostar in Bayahibe but hubby didnt fancy the 1.5hr transfer so we booked the Riu Palace Punta Cana in Bavaro this year, its the Alacarte and is exclusive to Thomson I am hoping it is going to be as nice as it looks, one thing for sure Riu are are prestigious chain so it cant be bad

Daughter back last thursday had a great time, said you couldnt fault hotel, extremely clean and friendly and the food superb, loads of choice. Many of the guests at the other hotels came to the Mambo during the day.

Hi Martbuck, the standard is basicly the same in all, "pay for one, play in all three" personally I would just go for cheapest, and use the money saved to explore the island using the trips available. (book these using the guy in the first hut on the Mambo beach, much better value than using the hotel, and quiet often your on the same tour bus. ) From memory Plaza Tours? :?:
Good luck in your choice and enjoy. :D:

Hi There

Just returned from the Riu Bachata for our 3rd visit.

The hotels are basically the same but we have always stayed in the Bachata. The pool area is more lively and is the only one with a swim up bar. However you can still use it whichever hotel you stay in. a group of our friends stayed in the Merengue and they always prefered the nighly entertainment with us in the Bachata. Again - you can use all the facilities wherever you stay but i prefer not having so far to stagger!!!
Also if you like a pool with shade you have to be up early to bag a lounger at the Bachata as there are limited umbrellas. I think the food and room standards are the same in each hotel. Remember that the mambo is furthest away from the bachata - about 10 mins along the path.
Any q's about the resort please let me know!!
