Like most comments on here I think it's a bit of a cheek asking to help pay towards their honeymoon so I'm afraid I'll be buying a present.
We have have some friends getting married in August, on their invite it stated "as we have everything we need we would like to ask for cash so we can buy something on our honeymoon to remember our wedding day"
They are going to the Indian Ocean for their honeymoon. IMO the money will be used to pay for the honeymoon, so I refuse to give them cash, they will get a voucher or a present.
We got married 4 years ago and originally did not have wedding list as we had lived together for 7 years and had everything we needed, like Fiona people kept asking what we wanted as they would'nt feel comfortable turning up without a gift so we flicked through the Argos catalogue and picked out a handful of inexpensive gifts i.e knifes, saucepans, table mats.
I have to be honest, I don't like the idea of giving money. I will have to have a word with my daughter, as it's her friends & she will be going too. Maybe I will get Argos vouchers - they are always useful.
When it comes to giving money it becomes like a competition who's giving what.
When my bro and sis in law got married they said no pressies (though some did buy), my cousin came along with 6 bottles of champagne in her boot, they told her thanks but take it back home (she keeps stuff like that in!) as they didn't like champers anyway. I only found out after the event, I was like 'wooah, I could've done that some damage'.
