The Hotel Antique, is situated in an excellent position, in Colaba Market, it is just off Colaba Causeway, where you will find every shop and stall you can think of, selling every thing from paper crafts to antiques. From the outside the hotel looks a bit grotty, but that is the case in many of the hotels in Mumbai, Mumbai, is still not used to having tourists, so the standard of the hotels, is far below what what we normally expect. There is a turbaned doorman, at the front of the hotel, the reception is on the ground floor, but the accomodation is on the 4th 5th and 6th floors.

The rooms, are very large, with windows overlooking the local street and market, they are very basic rooms, with just the beds, a sky television, and a fridge there is also a phone. We have been using this hotel for the past 3 years, because compared to Mumbai prices it is cheap for an hotel room, the current tarriff is Rps 1,700. The rooms are very clean, they do room service, but if you order something off there menu it is not cooked on the premises, they have a local cafe, where they order the food and drinks from. so even though this includes breakfast, you may be better off popping out to Leopolds Resturant, which is just five minutes walk away. You can arrange to be met at the airport, and they will also arrange transport to return you to the airport.

The staff are very pleasant, but I will warn you that when you are checking out there will be a crowd of them in the foyer expecting a tip, even the night staff who have gone off duty will return at the time of your departure for this tip. This year I refused to tip the staff who had not served us, as I thought that it was a damned cheek, expecting a tip, when I had never set eyes on them, Everyone from the Manager down expects a hand out.
