Just got back from staying in one of the Oasis Papagayo Villas, the girlfriend and myself had a great time!

Check in was very fast despite some of the reports. We did hire a car and arrived in our own time though which probably had something to do with it. Just on a side note the villas are being advertised online as

Just returned from the Oasis Papagayo, we all have a fantastic time !!

Very quick and efficient check in. Yes the complex is large and it might take a few minutes to find your apartment but nothing too difficult at all.

Complex is spread over a large area with absolutely beautiful gardens which an army of gardeners constantly keep looking spectacular.

The Papagayo is a little out of town (as stated) but we didnt find this a problem, the hill that other reviews have mentioned in my opinion was a slight incline!!

We stayed in a two bedroom appartment which was lovely, and in a nice quite location about a 5 minutes walk from reception. whoever in my opinion the maid service was not upto a 3 star standard, we had no problems atall our first week, but the second week was terrible the towels were only changed twice, and the bedding wasnt changed atall!!

The two pool area a both lovely, the main pools (where the thompson entertainment is) are salt water, but this never bothered any of us.

The Thompson Entertainers are all SIMPLY THE BEST we have ever had the pleasure to meet (this was our 4th Superfamily) Little KIM POSSIBLE is so sweet and never stops, always has a smile and time for a chat, Next there is RAZZEL DAZZEL DARREN, bless him hes only 18 but certainly a very professional entertainer, with a fantastic voice, and finally but certainly not least is LJ COOL, This girl is a complete nutter and will definatley have you laughing your socks off by the end of your hols.

The Kidzone Girls again are the best team we have come across, and are a real credit to them selfs, we felt completely at ease leaving our 4 year old in there care.

The pools side bar served great snacks for lunch, but dont expect service with a smile !!! But we did find the food to be, of a good standards and also good value.

The onsite minimarket is open til 8.30pm, and stocks most things, it is a expensive, but its fine for basics.

To summerise a great holiday and we would certainly return !!

The Thomson staff, particularly the entertainment team, the Kids Club Team, Swimming and footie coaches, are excellent.

However, cleanliness here is a problem. After virtually camping out in reception and finally completing a written formal complaint twice, we got clean towels eventually, clean sheets on day 10 in one apartment and day 11 in the other. The maid service consists only of empty the bins, make beds, squirt pink stuff down the loo - and that seems to be it. In response to repeated requests for our floor to be mopped because of an ant problem (due to food spills from previous occupants) a can of bug spray was delivered. We were told by a cleaning supervisor that they cannot do more as there are only 19 cleaners and 1300 bedrooms.

Staff are unresponsive - a baby poo'd in the splash pool. This was reported to staff nearby, but nothing was done about it.

Food is poor quality - but you should be safe ordering chips, but that is about it. Drinks are expensive and vary in price depending on staff serving.

If arriving at night take a torch and plan the route carefully before setting off - "ha ha, everyone gets lost".

Fans are essential - 12 euros per fan per week plus 10 euro deposit. Ground floor rooms do not have grills for night ventilation.

The hotel does not take credit cards, so be prepared to lay out cash on first day in deposits and hire fees for room safes, pool towels, fans etc.

TV you can only get by paying for (any channels).

Telephones in rooms do not work.

The main pools are salt water. 2 of our children threw up after getting a mouthful. We spent more time at the small fresh water pool (where the Italians reps were based).

The Thomson team good as they are do not make up for the failings of the hotel.

Hi I have been to Oasis Papagayo apartments before. I went in February of this year and decided to go back and book a villa. I'm so glad I did the villas were excellent very private and plenty of room for everyone and everything you could possibly want.

I would definitely give 10 out of 10 for this villa its the first time we have booked a villa and would definitely do it again.

Entertainment was awful the Thomson teddy bear was jumping around the stage at 11 o'clock at night not very good for the adults.

Drinks are very expensive, while I'm on the subject of pricey things stay away from the supermarkets as they are also very pricey would go back as the resort is lovely and the people are very friendly. Was more expensive than it was when we went in February but we had a great time.

The Thomson entertainment team at this hotel were fantastic, the kids enjoyed the kids club, the kid zone entertainment and the rep shows.

The pools were great except the main pool, where everything happened was salt-water and this stung the children's faces so they didn't want to go in it. (It does say in brochure that pool is salt-water). The smaller pool was freshwater and was where Italian reps based themselves. This pool was fantastic just a little small. The pool signs say no lilos but there were loads in both pools.

The two disappointing aspects were as follows:- the brochure says maid service five times per week, we only saw a maid six times in fourteen days!, we also had same sheets for 9 days, which were changed after three complaints to reception and two to reps. Towels were also only changed once. This did seem to depend on where your room was within the hotel as other people we talked to didn't all have the same problem.

Hotel was a good 15-20 mins walk from town centre and 30 mins to good beach. We ended up taking taxis to both at 4-5 euros a time so not too bad.

Restaurants in town also fairly expensive. The hotel pool bar often ran out of chicken nuggets, chicken breast and also soft drinks. The a la carte restaurant also ran out on one occasion, there was only one member of staff serving and one cooking, food quality poor. The reception also had just one person serving most times, not sufficient for a 500 apartment hotel!. Apart from these complaints we had a fantastic time as the good outweighed the bad.

Would still go back.
