This was my forth visit to the Red Lion Central in Denver. I always stay here before I meet with a group of friends to go Storm Chasing on the plains.
The only downside to this hotel - a minor one - is the distance to the airport. Originally the Red Lion served the old airport, which was closed a number of years ago. However, the area has now been. Redeveloped into shops etc, so the location is great for access to malls and the centre of Denver is a $20 cab ride away.
The hotel it's self is large, clean and well run. The reception area is very big and staff serve you promptly and are polite. There is a friendly bar area and a small restaurant if you don't fancy venturing out.
The rooms I have had over the last couple of years have been excellent. They are large and airy, the beds are very comfortable. Some of the rooms do have older air con units which tend to be a little noisy in the night. Easily solved by turning it off and opening the window - you can't beat some fresh air.
If you do book, ask for a room at the rear of the hotel. The railway line is about 300 yards from the front door and the freight trains enjoying letting off their air horns throughout the night as the pass.
Their is a swimming pool, however I personally wouldn't swim in it as the looked like it could do with a clean - lots of sun screen floating on the top. There is also the horrible stench of propane gas, that emits from one corner of the hotel. Has a nice sun deck though if the weather is good.
In conclusion, I'd recommend this hotel again and again if you are stopping over in Denver and you're on a budget.
