Hi All,
Just wanted your collective opinions on which factor suncream for my holiday this year. Heading off to the Titanic Lara Beach on Sunday 24th of August with the wife and 4 fair skinned kiddies...
We have bought factor 50 for the kids and factor 30 for me and the wife, all Boots Soltan, question is have I bought too high a sun rating, what do you guys use/recommend?
Phil
I would say you have done ok.
Dont go below 50 for the kids, it just aint worth it. Personally I have got factor 50 for the kids and me for the first few days, then the kids will continue on 50 and I will probably alternate between 50 and 30. Only becouse I got a good deal on Piz Buin factor 30 no allergy becouse I suffer from prickly heat occasionally. Not sure if it is becouse of the glands getting blocked or becouse I have used to low a factor in the past.
I dont tan easily but I think the pear drop look is sooooo last season and the pain - oh the pain, it just aint worth it!
I am looking forward to a pain free holiday with a gradual tan and a hole heap of fun!!
Three sleeps!!!

DH and kids use factor 50 and I start with that then use 30. I dont think its too high, for anywhere to be honest.
Also try to make sure your children wear a hat (easier said than done if they are young I know) and drink lots of water and avoid sitting in the sun during the hottest part of the day.
have a good trip.

high factor is the way to go......it doesnt stop you tanning, it doesnt work that way.
Four of us and we used 3 bottles of 50 the first week and 3 of 30 the second, but still put 50 on our shoulders, faces etc. A lot of the time though we stayed under the parasols, particularly in the middle of the day it was just so hot.
No that is best because Turkish sun is so strong. I like sunbathing but the heat is so strong. My shoulders soon burnt. I took factor 15 but I had to go buy some 30 and I would still burn. Also the sunscream just kept swetting off me so you have to make sure you keep applying it. I also stayed under a parasol alot and would wear my boyfriends t-shirts to cover up.
I used to sweat suncream off and suffer with prickly heat. I have found if I use Ultrasun sun screen it stays on all day. I applied it last year before going on a jeep safari. Got soaked numerous times went swimming etc never reapplied it and didn't get burned or prickly heat.
i never use anything less than factor 50 on my kids even the 15 year old lad who thinks it girly to use sun screen i use 50 to start then work down to 30 but never less than that in the turkish sun
What ever factor you take - take loads! It is the same price out there as it is here for the good stuff and sometimes more expensive, especially for the higher factor ones (I went to Altinkum) My husband tried some of the cheaper stuff and came out in a horrible rash very similar to prickly heat.
You might.
The best advice, whatever factor you use (I personally never go above 30) is to avoid the sun between 12 and 3 all together, i.e by staying under a parasol, or (my particular favourite taking time out for a long lunch in a shady spot, one or two efes ...cant beat it!!!!
I see people often, slathering themselves unevenly in factor 50, then lying in the sun for hours. Of course they get patchy burns then!
Wear factor 50 by all means, but dont lie out in the sun all day just because you think you are protected. You could get very ill.
Everyone on hear sounds so sensible, I have seen so many people laying in the sun all day with factor 2 on or something and looking like lobsters at the end of the day, even worse people allowing their children to get like that . Some people have no sense. High factor is best.
