We have just returned after 2 fabulous weeks on this ship and wouldn't hear a word against it. The cabins are huge, the entertainment staff kept it going all day and night with all different sorts of music, games and shows although for 2 weeks we did see some repetition. We mainly ate in the Waterfront, but did eat in the Plantation a couple of times, especially for afternoon tea when the scones were around! The food was varied and hot, my only gripe was you kept on having to go back for a tray to carry everything, but by the end of the 2 weeks I was holding onto my tray and not letting the waiter take it as soon as I sat down!!!
Each port had something different and since we were independent travellers, we did our own thing - Crete walked into town, about 30 mins away. Limassol, went to Ladies Mile Beach, caught a taxi and on return asked them to drop us off in town. There is a local bus from the port to town for about 1 euro. Rhodes is near to the port, a nice walk through tiny streets.Has a nice harbour too. Ephasus was the one trip we did do organised, but you can get there by yourselves, but make sure you start at the upper gate, and also you will need Turkish Lira for the entrance fee. I think it was about 20 Lira. There was also some renovation that you can see for another 15 lira. All in all the cost would have been the same as the half day trip from the ship, so we opted for that. Mykonos - what can I say, we went to Platys Yialos beach, again a bus from the bus station for a euro or so straight to the beach, better than £12 the ship was charging and we had longer! Santorini, here you tender and catch a cable car to the top, go through the streets to the bus station and grab a bus to Oia yet again a euro or so. What a beautiful place, beware quite expensive. Dubrovnik - walk out of the port and up the road to catch a bus 1a/1b to the town it was the end stop - BEWARE,IF YOU HAVE NO LOCAL CURRENCY YOU HAVE TO POP INTO THE STATION BEHIND THE STOP AND CHANGE SOME EUROS WE JUST CHANGED 10 EUROS EACH- we walked through Dubrovnik main street to the port and then caught a water bus 12 Euros return (we got it down to 10 as there were 6 of us)to Cavtat for a few hours. Corfu,we caught a bus to Dassia Beach yet again a euro. Cephalonia another beach Makrys Gialos, got to be the best of the lot! (again a bus) then to Katakolon, we caught a train to Olympia, not much there although there is a nice small town, wouldn't bother going again but if you like that sort of thing..there is an interesting museum though. Lastly Athens, we walked and walked, caught a bus from the port to the station then a metro through to Athens (20 mins) we brought a day travelcard covering buses/metro etc for a few euros. When you come out of the station from the green line Monastra....something? if you make your way through the agora, you will come into the Acropolis from the side and the queue was not existent. You can buy a ticket covering 5 sites all for 12 euros. After we just roamed around, the best thing we did after visiting various places was Lecabettus Hill (I think that is what it was called) you can get a cable car up. All you need is a good pair of walking shoes!
It is a shame that the ships charges so much for the tours when you can do it for a fraction of the price on the bus and it is much more fun too! Don't be taken in by shuttle buses either, we found after that local buses come to the port when they were charging £8 and £5 Oh and don't buy the DVD's from the ship, we have 2 (each week)and apart from different ports, the contents are the same and it is not of your weeks holiday!
Apart from all that, I would go back anytime and would recommend it to anyone who likes a good value holiday and doesn't expect the likes of P&O (no offence)
