Norwegian Dawn

2 of 12 Norwegian Cruise Line ships

This ship was designed for freestyle cruising and offers dining flexibility in ten distinctive restaurants, 14 separate lounges and bars and a wealth of activities. However the increased venues result in extra charges and reduced deck space. Passengers on the Norwegian Dawn tend to be mixed ages and American and some International. When all cabins have double occupancy, the ship provides a space ratio of 40.2 tons per passenger and a crew to passenger ratio of one for every 1.7 passengers. At full capacity the space ratio is 32.1 tons per passenger and the crew ratio is one to 2.1 passengers.

We went on the NCL Dawn as a family, we went on this cruise to the Carribean, we have never cruised before. Our children are 10 and 12. The ship was lovely and clean and most of the staff couldn't do enough for us. The food couldn't have been any better, there's something for everyone. The on board entertainment wasn't all that, some nights were good and other nights it was rubbish!!! What spoilt it for us was the fact that we felt like we had to be a cash machine, everything was tips, tips, tips. Although tips were put direct onto your on board bill there is a service charge every time you go to the bar/spa etc. Also as a young family we thought that there would be a few other families on board but nearly everyone was over 60 years old!

we sailed from new york to boston, bar harbour, saint john boston newport rhode island etc and chose this cruise because we wanted some days in new york as well.We booked each element of our holiday separately and we were surprised how stress free it was to hop in a taxi and head for the port at the desired time.We found the port to be very busy and also it did seem more hassle to check in than other cruises we had been on.Also the rooms were not ready and we were all invited to have something to eat and drink, before being eventually called to our respective cabins. However from this point on the cruise was really good and the quality of the food exceptional. We ate in the self service restaurant every night and it was marvellous.
I would say that the entertainment was not as good as other cruise lines we had been on, and there always seemed to be something on sale somewhere on the ship that was calling out for you to buyEspecially the art sales on board
There was a canadian duo on everynight in one of the bars and they were eally good.
One thing to gripe about is that although we prepaid our tips just before leaving the ship the cabin staff still put in numerous appearances trying to be more than helpful,in order to secure a tip.
When leaving the ship we found this just as crazy as getting on and we found it to rather spoil what was a very good trip

The Norweigan Dawn was the finest ship we have sailed on. We were hesitant to sail with NCL as we have never sailed with them before, but we are now glad that we did. We set sail from New York and because we were from the UK, had to wait a little while longet to be checked aboard, but even then the wait wasn't long. The longest part was US Immigration.

The ship was kept incredibly clean throughout our stay - the rooms especially. The Housekeeping Department have a lot to be proud of - their staff especially. Everytime we saw them, they would ask if there was anything wrong with the room, or if we required anything!

We didn't get to see many of the Speciality Restuarants, due to one of the party being a VERY fussy eater. The Restuarants such as the Venetian & La Bistro were excellent when we DID get to try them! The Garden Café was kept well stocked with highly enjoyable foods.

Our cruise Director, Matt, was extremely funny at all times and seemed dedicated to making sure that the guests had the best time possibly. He & his team were wonderful - and put on brilliant shows!

The Shore Excursions were ebsolutely brilliant - we did one at every port of call. NCL's provate island, Great Stirrup Cay was absolutely wonderful - the beach was the best we've ever been on. The water was so hot, we stayed in it through a thunderstorm!

We are planning to sail with NCL again, although on a different route & ship.
