This was our 4th cruise but first freestyle, and first with NCL. The concept of dinning when, where and with whom we chose was the main attraction for us as on previous cruises we had to adhere to strict times regarding dinning and were sat at tables with people whom we had little in common, which on a two week cruise can become a strain to keep conversations going!
We sailed on their repositioning cruise to new York, via Cobh, Iceland, St Johns and Newport.
The itinery was perfect as Iceland was a place on our wish list of places to see and sailing into New York past the Statue of Liberty is a once in a lifetime experience.
The ship was immaculate, the staff were all chosen from sister ships so were experienced and their were few hiccups considering it was the ships third ever cruise.
We were able to reserve our speciality restraunts at the allocated part of the reception desk and had no trouble getting tables for when we wanted. There were a few nights I booked a table for that night in the morning and even at short notice they found a table for us, granted we did prefer to eat at 9pm, I believe reservations for 7ish were more difficult to obtaina t short notice.
The staff were all obliging and very efficient, especially our cabin staff. We were in a mini suite. This had a bath, which I was very impressed with! There was an in bath shower also. The suite was a comfortable size and the clear balconies meant you could see out to sea from the cabin, we spotted dolphins a couple of times from our bed!
The food was adequate in the Azur and Tsars palce.
Cagneys was good, but the bistro and chin chin were my favourites.
NCL to us have captured the ideal concept of freestyle cruising. We will definately be sailing with them again in the future.
