This was the first section of the World Cruise; from Sydney to Dubai. I've traveled on Princess many times all over the world over the last 20 years and I have to say standards are sliding. This was the last Princess cruise I'll be on for quite a while.
The balcony cabin was clean and very compact. Wide screen TV's were fitted into the cabin during the first week of the cruise, although actual programs never matched the program list anyway during the entire cruise.
Cabin and restaurant staff were excellent but entertainment staff were trying hard but failing - and everyone thought so. The evening/theatre entertainment was quite ordinary most of the time but lectures and port talks were excellent.
The food was variable; meats always well-cooked but the menu seemed repetitive. Essentially the food was slightly bland and a bit dull. We sent a few soups and fish dishes back because they were tasteless. The waiter was embarrassed and was very quick to offer alternatives.
One of the biggest complaints relates to the fact this was a World Cruise. Because people are on board for so long, laundry became a big issue for everyone having to do their own. The lack of enough washing machines and dryers became a very big irritation for everyone; people had fights, and arguments occurred regularly over the use of machines and dryers. It was an issue on long cruises before and Princess hadn't done enough to deal with the problem by increasing the number of laundries, machines and dryers for the full complement of passengers.
On arrival in Dubai there were no agents nor ship representatives to help those leaving the ship. Transport was lacking and we were told by taxi drivers that no-one had been told by the ship's agents that the ship was due. Very poor.
