Took a Baltic cruise awesome ports visited. Embarkation very swift and hassle free. Ship started disembarking passengers at 6am I was one of the last to leave at 9am! The ship is old with a poor layout. The food was totally bland and very predictable. The majority of passengers were mature and some had major attitude problems [Victor Meldew is a pussycat in comparison]. Once on board NCL want to fleece passengers at every opportunity. Bags are screened on embarkation for alcohol. If any is found it is confiscated. Wine may be bought back for $15 a bottle. Drinks are incredibly expensive on board, as for buying a bottle of wine the mark up must be 500%! Photos are unbelievably priced, tours are poor value and very expensive [research before hand and do your own thing].

There must be better ways of seeing the Baltic than with NCL or as most passengers called themm the Nasty Cruise Line.

Avoid the NCL and especially avoid the Dream.

The food was mediocre and "Freestyle" would be better described as free for all. After excrusions (organised by their staff) everyone arrived back on board more or less at the same time, generally lunchtime, but to get a meal was almost impossible, only one restaurant and the Sports bar was usually open, we were even advised by staff to collect our meal and carry it down two flights of stairs to the Tratoria bar (which was closed for serving food) to eat it. Alcoholic drinks were extremely expensive and baggage was searched on each return to the ship in case you had smuggled a drink on board! Wine was prohibitive and funnily enough, the cheapest was "sold out" by the third day on board, although there was an abundance of the more expensive bottles. Most people ended up on an involuntary detox diet!
Organsiation on this ship was non existent. The Stardust lounge was lethal, a health and safety nightmare. The staff did their best against all odds. The general feeling was that the whole cruise was nothing but a rip off only redeemed by the wonderful cities that we visited.

This being our first cruise we had high hopes and expectations of a wonderful holiday sailing the Baltic. Not so!! The embarkation process at Dover was chaotic with NCL staff less than helpful. Once on board we asked several crew members where our cabin was and met with a negative response. No one explained that we had to walk through the Four Seasons dining room to get to our cabin and we would never have found it without the help of a senior member of staff. The lifeboat drill left us feeling that our safety would be in jeopody in the event of an emmergency arising at sea. There was no explanation as to how to fit the lifejacket, or procedure for getting into the boats. We had to line up in very tight lines of three and wait for our names to be called. This seemed more important to the staff than explanations of safety.
Onboard food was excellent and varied, although freestyle dining could be chaotic with queueing for tables, especially when returning from onshore excursions when at least one or more restaurants could be closed. Drinks were expensive with a 15% service charge to be added. Photos taken onboard were produced quickly and not always of a standard for the expensive prices asked. Excursions were expensive for what you got (do your homework first as most of the places visited are easily accessible by your own efforts.)
On board entertainment was aimed mainly at the American audience. Apart from the two male singers and the magician, the artists although talented, were unable to put together an entertaining performance.
It is advisable to carefully check your onboard billing. We asked that the $10 service charge be deducted from our final bill as we preferred to tip ourselves, and had to make a further request before this was done. We were also charged for laundry which we did not have.
We would be most reluctant to use this Cruise Line again.

Glad to see I wasn't the only one that thought I was getting ripped off everytime I turned around. This was only my second cruise, but (except for the itinerary) this cruise sucked. Okay, my cabin steward was awesome. There, I said good things. Bad things are just numerous. Most sucky -- that d@mn cruise directer....she has to be the most annoying person on the planet. Eating was an effort -- especially breakfast in the Sports Bar. Lots of my fellow travelers were pretty nasty too -- guess because we realized we were being ripped off. Overall, the help on board was pretty good -- considering what they had to work with, and they knew that people were annoyed. The wine really ticked me off. Last year I paid about 10 Euro a night for a decent bottle of wine, a reasonable amount. I was also told that the "cheap" wine had run out on the second night. "Cheap" is a relative term -- it was $24, but cheap compared to the $80 bottles. I managed to get a few bottles on board -- through the Booze Police at the gangway. I kept my "cheap" empty bottle, filled it before dinner with my store bought wine, and took it to dinner with me everynight. You never see the same waiter twice -- "Freestyle Dining!" so nobody ever picked up on it. I'm sure other people were sneakier than me, but I never once felt guilty about it. I realize that the average age on board was 60, and the entertainment was exactly aimed at what I like, but it was terrible -- with a couple exceptions -- English Juggler Guy, Italian Magician Guy, and American Comedian Guy. To sum up, THE ITINERARY IS AWESOME!!!!!!
