Just returned from 7 night cruise plus 5 days in Singapore. This was unquestionably the best holiday of my life. After 7 nights on Superstar Gemini I didn't want to get off, a sentiment shared by the vast majority of passengers. This ship is a gem. By today's cruise ship standards she is tiny but that is a big plus for Gemini. The relatively small number of passengers on board (only half full on this cruise, about 420 passengers) generated a really friendly, relaxed atmosphere and many good frienships resulted.
Unbelievably this ship has been sold and will sail its last cruise for Star Cruises at the end of December. As a result you might expect standards on board to slip.
Not so! The ship was maintained to an exceptional standard. Embarcation and disembarcation at Singapore and ports of call were highly efficient and great emphasis was placed on safety. The quality and choice of food was superb both in Mariners Buffet and in the more formal Ocean Palace restaurant. A good variety of entertainment was provided with a different variety show each night and quality live entertainment in the ships bars. The crew show was a highlight, showcasing the talent on board. Overall, the entertainment staff did a superb job and contributed greatly to the happy atmosphere aboard.
A good range of shore excursions were available at reasonable prices - twenty pounds for a 7 hour guided tour of Kuala Lumpur, including lunch, was astounding value. Useful information was provided for those wishing to go ashore independently.
I cannot praise the crew of Gemini highly enough. From ships officers to deckhands undertaking maintenance tasks all of the crew greeted passengers pleasantly and took time to talk. Housekeeping and waiting staff provided a level of service which would be difficult to better. I am astounded and dismayed that most will lose their jobs when the ship is sold.
Leaving the ship at the end of the cruise in Singapore
was like saying goodbye to good friends. I am grateful for the opportunity to have sailed on this ship before
it leaves the Star Cruises fleet in January.

Booked through Thomson Holidays for a week on Gemini and a week in Phuket. Had one of the best holidays ever. Superstar Gemini is truly a gem. Cruised on many ships but have to say that whilst this is not the largest/oppulent it is intimate, well looked after and still very stylish.
The food was very good, plenty of choice either in the restaurant or the buffet. Catered to either asian or international tastes. Presentation and taste were superb even if it wasn't always hot enough particulalry in the restaurant.
The service onboard was second to none. The service culture that runs throughout the ship was unbelieveable. I have not experienced such attentive customer service on a any cruise I have previously been on.
Superstar Gemini was immaculate, always being cleaned, the staff seemed to have a pride in looking after her.
The ship was a great size, still had great facilities and despite being small, she didn't feel all that compact. Plenty of public areas to go and the fantastic atrium gave a feeling of openess. Cabins not huge but very practical. Tea & Coffee making facilities, bathrobes, 110 & 220v uk, eurpoean & us style plugs, safe boxes & TV. Plenty of storage space. Nice fluffy white towels and duvets were provided.
The entertainment was very good. A different show most nights performed by the talented ents team/dancers and a fantastic chinese acrobatic troupe. Musicians were good and the crew talent show was superb.
The places visited were brilliant. Penang, Singapore (had a sling in Raffles), Port Klang (for kuala Lumpur - which was superb), Langkawi (go on the Cable Car - breathtaking scenery) and Krabi (beautiful). Experiencing the different cultures and sights was fabulous.
The week in Phuket initially was a little disappointing, after such a fantastic week onboard Superstar Gemini even though the Patong Merlin was beautiful, however after 24hours of adjusting to land and Patong things looked better. Perhaps stay longer onboard next time or stay in Karon Beach instead of Patong. All in all a superb experience and would repeat it again.
