Firstly , its not often that i post a new thread , but to be honest there hasn't been many posts today in this forum , and i'm now getting very bored reading the "boring" thread , i think the level of boredom has now got to the experience i feel when having to endure an episode of loose women, so here's my attempt to talk about something more exciting , like ......spending money !!!
i happened to read in the paper today that a survey showed that us sunseeking Brits overspent by an average £200 each while on holiday this year. it reports that tourists fed up with the credit crunch admitted splurging on fancy meals, clubs and hotels, and the reason .... "to feel like a star"
The poll also revealed that 1 in 10 of the 3000 surveyed even aped celebs like Cheryl Cole and Kelly Brook when picking destinations, in fact hols in LA were up a quarter.
Do any of you "splurge" (quite liking that word!) to feel like a star , or are you influenced by celebs when choosing a destination?

No way! I don't have much time for celebs to be honest and couldn't give two hoots where they go on holiday. As for splurging- I might be a little more free and easy with money on holiday than I would be at home but then again I've budgeted to include little treats but I wouldn't say I 'splurged'.
We as a family of four do not have the money to splurge on luxury meals, night clubs and posh shopping.
We like to go away and have a nice relaxing time and live within our means
Well if you call having a drink and going out to eat everynight for two weeks having a splurge then yes i do , but who cares not me i'm on holiday
Nope, not us, its all about the budget, baby ! we might spend a little more on the last day on souveneers, but definately not to the tune of £200 ! Blimey, if anything ( as i'm a bit tight ) I would want to come home with some of my spends !
i personally don't care,where celebs go,on holiday.we choose our destination,to suit us!
tracy
Tracy, when were you last in europe , me and hubby never spend £100 a day even when booking a day out , maybe i'm not splurging enough
£100 a day is around our budget as well, unless we're all inclusive. Sometimes a little more, sometimes less depending what we do. I admit that I don't look at meal prices quite so closely, but we don't go throwing money that we've worked hard for around - we'd rather have an extra little break. There is no way I would try and emulate any celebs, they've got no idea what it's like to live in the real world.
We budget for £100 a day (2 of us) when we're sc or B&B. we eat out every evening and lunchtime. I can't think of a time when we've gone over that. If we spent £200 extra during the hol, I wouldn't think it so bad as that only amounts to just under £15 extra a day. I wouldn't like to make a habit of it though.
"to feel like a star"
And look like a Plonker!
HT is not really the place for extended discussion but it says a lot about the mindset of these people when they think copying such as Cheryl Cole and Kelly Brook when picking destinations is important.
I know there is a credit crunch and some bright spark suggested we should spend our way out, but you actually need money for that. Most of these people will be going into debt to be able to afford it just for the boast factor.
Someone recently suggested I was in a different class to him because some of the people I mix with are millionaires. Perhaps they are but personal wealth and position is not something any of us discuss - No I am not one of the millionaires before you ask - we just enjoy each others company and have similar interests. And yes these people book/take package holidays with Thomson, Thos Cook etc just like the rest of us. Might be because all of them have worked hard to get it so have nothing to prove.

I'd certainly want to know where Cheryl Cole was heading before booking my holiday......
We don't really have a budget, just keep taking it out of the ATM as and when. The only downside is I have to listen to hubby every time we come home saying " do you know how much we spent when we were away" I've become immune over the years - it just goes in one ear and out of the other
I'd certainly want to know where Cheryl Cole was heading before booking my holiday......
...... and there are plenty more of these overhyped nobodies I'd pay to avoid!!

I don't overspend on holiday, I have holiday money which I spend on whatever I fancy so yep lots of treats but only spend what I can afford, i.e. no credit.
It seemed such a random amount to pick as an over spend amount, especially for a celebrity unless they were Z list.
An average meal for us in Menorca this year (there was 5 adults) was costing £100ish and I certainly didnt feel like I was splurging, but having 7 x meals at £100 just sort of accepted that was the cost of living over there, for 5 two meals a jug of sangria, some water and a few fruit juices - hardly living the high life or bringing out the Moet and Chandon.
We tend to budget by the wek... usually £500 for food and drink per week... we tend to have "cheap nights" and then have more expensive nights if we find somewhere better, but we're not rigid....
this supposed survey - anyone seen any link to it outside of the newspaper story? Has the air of a made up filler to me.

You asked for it and now you can have it. Guaranteed no Cheryl Cole - Nobody on the A to ZZZ list - No stars - Just a chance to get away from it all. You can come and stay at my house.
Bit expensive - but if M&S have a £10.00 meal deal on then it will be served - including the wine as long as it is red. We don't like the white.
