Without being rude - the heading is 11th Christmas in Goa - we are going to Silver Sands - does anyone know where it is. is it ok :que

Where have you stayed before - did you not check this one out if this is where you are going to spend your next one?
I know that I would spend a day looking at my intended next years Christmas Holiday as it is such an important one - not just have a look in a brochure or ask on a forum if I had been to the same area 10 times before so could have had a look round before I booked it.
I could tell you that it is absolute "swear" so then what would you do now that you had booked it or I could have told you it was wonderful and next January you would have come back and told me I was absolute "swear" for telling you it was wonderful.
Look before you leap if you are near the stream. :think

Sorry but I think you are being a little harsh.

We are all guilty of going :offtop sometimes.

I think the idea of the forum is to help and give advice.

If Dawn chose to book the hotel and now wants to find out more about it then that's her choice and this is the the place to find out about it.

Maybe just a little more tolerance might be helpful.

I'll apologise if this post is harsh but I've had a bad day too !!!

Sorry :offtop

Its my 11th time as well this Xmas but I have to say I can't think of anything more boring than spending my holiday going round looking at hotels in case I might want to stay there in the future. Like Dawn, I think I know people on the forum well enough to give me some idea of what a place is like, surely that's what the forum is for - help and advice. Looking around a place tells you nothing. I have stayed in some fantastic looking hotels over the years but the service has been appalling.

Hi Dawn

We stayed at the Silver Sands last Christmas and it was lovely, we were in a superior room, we had stayed there before a couple of years previous but in a basic room and it was very very basic. The bungalows are ok but still basic, we would stay there again but only in a superior room. The hotel is in a great location for the beach and all the bars and restaurants on the main beach road and if you are planning to go to the meet ups you only have a few minutes walk to get there. All in all it's a decent hotel and the staff are very good and helpfull.

Agree with DebnPete, this is a lovely place to stay, but would recommend you go for the superior room, these are very spacious with AC and TV included in the price, they are basic but the staff and the location make it an excellent place to stay, their beach shack the ceu mar has a lovely setting and we went there most days for our breakfast, they also do lovely evening meals, and its a great place to watch the sun go down, Can i ask whom you booked with for Christmas? You will have a great time. :D

I didn't think that waterproof was being rude really (as they stated they didn't mean to be). I wouldn't book out of a brochure without doing a little research first, i.e. posting questions on here/reading reports/checking out reviews on the web, especially if I was already a member of this site and visited the area a number of times before. I think that's all waterproof seems to be saying. It's an opinion and I don't think it's rude, especially since it's not to a new member who's never been to Goa before. It's sound advice for other people to find out about somewhere before booking.

I can remember posting some thoughts on Prazeres last year in response to a query from you dawn1511 (I don't know whether you went there), but I think that was worthwhile you asking opinion and checking out before booking. It's what I would advise anybody going anywhere as a "novice", and I guess I'm just a little surprised that a regular member of a holiday forum would do anything else. The reviews I linked to on this forum do sound pretty good in the main though - I hope that you enjoy (I enjoyed The Sheetal restaurant food when I ate there a few years ago, hope it's as good now) :)

I would just like to say that I agree with everything Phoebe says.
Couldn't have put it better myself.

Anyone should be able to ask any question about a hotel, the number of times they have visited Goa dosn't matter. Hotel standards can change and new ones appear, but it is best to ask before booking.
As BrenLiz pointed out, a visit to a hotel will give you a picture of what it is like. But only from people who have stayed there recently, will you know whats good and bad, ie- is it noisy at night, standard of sevice, any rooms to avoid etc.
Always remembering that other people's expectations, of a hotel could be different to your own. There are a couple of hotels that get consistantly good reviews, that I would never stay at again, and if I had looked around first would have avoided.

We have been going to Goa since 1999, I think I have been about 14/15 times now (as I went alone a couple of times too) but to be honest I still see queries on here that I don't know the answers to, it is only during the last two visits that we actually found holiday street in Candolim (and the great restaurants that we never knew were there) :think :duh so IMO I think that it's quite normal not to know about a particular place OR hotel however many times you have been. There are so many hotels to choose from now and I personally wouldn't want to spend valuable time whilst on my holiday researching them unless I was in that particular area or it had been specifically recommended to me to check it out; much easier to ask on a forum where there is so much bountiful knowledge. :tup

Please don't ever ask me for directions in the Baga, Calangute or Candolim area either because I haven't a clue........I just follow my husband and hope that he knows where we are going :rofl

Fizz

My husband just said "you could get lost in our back garden".....................
I said "Well if you cut the grass I wouldn't"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Flippin cheek!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To stay on topic...........it's down Candolim, on the main road on the right coming from Calangute. Friends stayed there and said it was basic. I think it's been taken over by new owners. It wasn't very well sign posted on the main road when I visited so could easily have missed it.

When we went to Goa 10 years ago for our first visit - we stayed at Silver Sands.
We were expecting basic and that's exactly what we got, I must add that the staff were helpful and friendly.
We had one of the rooms at the back, which was nice and quiet, but the bungalows have the problem of people walking up and down past them day and night.
I have noticed that they have built some new rooms to the side of the property which look quite nice, these are probably their superior rooms.
As others have said it's in an ideal situation, close to the beach and within walking distance to lots of shops and restaurants.

While we were there, we had a look around for something better for subsequent visits, and have been going back to the place we found ever since. :)
