I am thinking of going to going away for my birthday later this year and one of the places we were thinking of going to is Cyprus.
As we have never been before I was wondering if you regulars can give me some advice, hints and tips on where to stay etc. I will try not to make the list too long!
1. What is the weather like late September through to late October?
2. What resort will be best? We are both 30 and prefer restaurants and bars to night clubs and don't want it to be too rowdy.
3. Any recommended accommodation. We prefer a hotel to apartments (bad experiences in the past) and would go for a 4* upwards and something near to the beach and not too far from amenities as neither of us drive.
I hope this isn't too tall an order. I will start to look through the other posts to see if I can pick up any ideas of what there is to do whilst we are there.
Thanks
I have been twice to Cyprus, once with my family and once on my own.
Protaras is a family resort, but it does have many bars and restaurants.
I went on my own to Paphos last year on a stress break, lots of bars and restaurants there. I would say Paphos might be your best bet, although families do go there.
Lots of hotels near the harbour area, and Kato Paphos area, not far away from the front and "Bar Street" Some of the hotels here look really nice.
My hotel was a bit of a walk away, next time I will go for a hotel in the areas I have mentioned above.
Hope this helps
Regards

Me and my husband are both in our 30s and also enjoy nice resturants and bars. We have been to Paphos three times now and due our fourth visit in July. We always stay at the Paphos Amathus Beach Hotel which is a 5*. It is at the top of Paphos but there are lots of fantastic resturants and bars just outside and the main town is within walking distance, Could not reccomend it more.

I guess the only question that hasn't been answered is:
> What is the weather like late September through to late October
It's very good! By late September the temperatures dropped to a daytime maximum of 24 - 26 and by the end of October is down to the low 20s. Apart from the spring, Late Sept/Oct is the best time to visit IMHO.
There's little chance of rain at this time.
Regards,
Weather then is still very hot with the odd thunderstorm that never last long! slightly cooler at nights so sleeping is better..
I have to agree that Paphos sounds like the best resort for you. There are lots of good
hotels that I think you'll like
Just to say that we agree with everyone that Paphos is probably the best place to stay, lots to do, something for all tastes. Hope you have a great time, we love the place, going end of July.

I would recommend Pissouri. It's not at all rowdy, very peaceful and relaxing, in fact. There's no nightclubs and it has some good restaurants.
I stayed at the Columbia Beach Resort which is a deluxe hotel. It's sister hotel The Columbia Beach Hotel is next door. It's 4 star, is half the price of the Beach Resort, is of similar standard and is an absolutely fantastic hotel. Both hotels are next to the beach. There's plenty of water sports and boat trips available on the beach.
I stayed for two weeks end of September-October. The weather was very hot, lovely in fact. I got a great tan.
Surprisingly, even Ayia Napa is peaceful by September/October. The clubs are shutting down by then and it starts to feel like a fishing village again. Pafos remains popular, but its my least favourite Cyprus resort - probably because its become too commercialised in my view. Again -just my opinion - but the most laid back / relaxing resort we've been to is Protaras.
I think Protaras has become far too commercialised as well.
This will be our third year there.
Re bad experiences in apartments, we have stayed in 6 different ones in various parts of Cyprus and never had a bad experience.
Columbia? WAY out of my price bracket!!!
If you have a hire car I would recommend the Rantzo apartments.
Near enough but far enough away!! And quiet!

Our families stayed at the Columbia Beach Hotel next door. It's half the price and in my opinion, is nearly as luxurious as the Beach Resort. If I was going again, I wouldn't stay in the Columbia Beach Resort , I'd stay at the Columbia Beach Hotel. You get nearly the same standard of hotel for a much cheaper price.
Standard double room at the Columbia Beach Hotel - £CY105 per night.
Garden Studio at £CY155
Garden Suite at £CY205
I'd call that expensive too!
Instead, I've booked a 2 bedroom villa with private pool in the village for £CY450 for the week.

We're also looking to go to Cyprus for the first time in Sept / Oct. We'd be staying in self catering apartments, and we're unsure whether to go to Paphos or Protarus. I've been trying to find something not too pricey in either area, can anyone recommend anywhere? We too like bars and restaurants, and avoid karaoke type places, so any tips for which place to choose would be great. One last thing - i have previously read that people have been hassled in Paphos with time share / scratch card touts? Is it a problem at all?
Many thanks
Bec
Never been 'hassled' as such, but being 6'4" and built like the proverbial brick building that's not likely to happen.
On another forum I frequent a member was jostled by some touts.
Just need to be careful how you 'refuse' their 'generous offer'!

Hi, we have been to both sides of the island at that time of year. The weather has always been good, but sometimes windy at the end of October. We like both sides for different reasons. Ayia Napa and Protaras have great beaches, watersports, lots of restaurants and bars. Paphos has a nice harbour and there is more sightseeing to do here, but the beaches are generally not great. Both are equally touristy, so it depends what is most important to you.If you choose Ayia Napa , the area towards Nissi Beach has some nice 4* hotels. Good luck, I'm sure you'll enjoy it whichever resort you choose!
I'd love to go to Pissouri again. A private villa sounds great and excellent value. How do you go about booking it?
