All depends on your age and what you want from a holiday.........

Personally, we are moving away from the Limassol area after holidaying there for some 20 odd years. Reason being most of the hotels are being refurbished and going over to long-term lets. Much as I love Limassol and I hate to say it, it's had it's day I'm afraid.

Plenty of people on the forum will tell you about Paphos and Protaras, and as they are the experts I will leave it to them :)

Again speaking personally, we visited Larnaca and I loved it.........

Best of luck but be assured you will have a great holiday wherever you choose in Cyprus!

Hi,

In my view Paphos is a fantastic all round resort.

I am sure you would not be disappointed with Paphos.

I don't know much about Limassol so I can't comment on that.

The weather is usually very good in October and the pools even sea warm enough to swim in.

However, last October Paphos had the worst storms it has had for many years (some of the locals claimed 100years). We have been in October time and the weather was lovely. Not baking hot but just nice.

I am with Jinty on this one, we love Larnaca.

We do a 2 centre DIY holiday every year, one week in Larnaca, the other in Pissouri.

I think almost everyone I know who has stayed in Paphos on holiday have returned again and again. It's probably the most popular destination for a vacation in Cyprus, although personally speaking - it's far too full of ex-pats and too British for my liking now.

A number of years ago it was a different story and we were seriously considering living there on a permanent basis. One night in a bar full of ex-pats whinging turned us completely away from it and we chose to live in Limassol instead, although we are out in one of the suburbs rather than in the centre.

Paphos is great for a holiday destination and to visit Polis & Latchi.
Limassol is the most central resort and almost equi-distant from either airport and a great place to explore the whole of the island. But - it's a long, sprawling resort for about 12km along the seafront.
Larnaca is still more traditional and if we didn't have to work, we would probably look more to this end of the island as a permanent residence for us.
Ayia Napa is still well renowned for it's nightlife and clubs.
Quieter resorts with the best beaches are Protaras and Paralimni - more geared to family holidays than Ayia Napa but still with a great choice of restaurants and bars.

Looks like the choice is up to you now :)

Of course I am biased but Pafos is the place, I can go to all parts of the island in a few hours, but always like to drive back....BUT you will not be disappointed where ever you end up..

The weather's pretty good in October - although there is the risk of rain at that time of the year.

If you want to spend you time travelling around the island viewing different places, then Limassol is your best bet. But if you want more of a holiday atmosphere, Paphos may be better for you.

The used to do 'fly-drive' holidays - I don't know if these are still available. We did this once when we first came here back in 1984. You spend a few days in each of the major towns (Paphos, Limassol, Larnaca & Nicosia) which gives you the opportunity to explore each region.

For such a small island, Cyprus is very varied. There are many out-of-the-way villages with small tavernas that most tourists never see - and where you can enjoy the real Cyprus!

Have a good holiday.
