Hello,
We fancy visiting the Algarve this August and have found reasonably
priced flights to Faro. Knowing nothing of this country, we would be grateful for suggestions of an nice area & possibly even hotel or apartments where son is likely to meet other teens but without it being too lively if poss!
Many thanks in advance.
Hello tavsy, there are so many nice places on the Algarve, my bet would be Lagos plenty to see and do, lots of good restaurants some nice bars, the best thing is its not a all out party town like some of the other resorts and suits adults and teens alike, not sure of any hotels as we tend to stay away from hotels with kids in them. I look at it like this, we have had ours so don't want to hear other peoples, take a look at this site just click on it and it should go to the site. Then click on the Algarve, and then you can look up some resorts.
http://www.algarveuncovered.com its an excellent site with lots of information.
Also have a look at http://www.marinaclub.pt/ click on the union flag to bring the site up in english.
If however you are looking for a kind of compromise of being OK for yourselves but not too boring (you mention without it being too lively ) for the kids it could be OK.
Otherwise I think you would be better off looking at Albuferia, or possibly one of the few AI's the Algarve boasts like the Paraiso de Albuferia of the First Choice Holiday Village, although this later one many be dominated by young kids not teens so beware if you are allergic to other peoples 3 and 4 year olds. LOL.
There are also a few nice half-board hotels in and around Vilamoura and the marina there is quite lively at night so that's another place you could research. Might be cheaper to go half board at the moment due to the state of the Euro/Pound.
Good Luck, Doe
I'm thinking maybe Albufeira might be better for son - he's not a clubber but highlight of holiday to Turkey was a teen trip to club and he will probably want to repeat the holiday experience!
Marinaclub beyond budget but any other suggestions gladly accepted.
Marina club was Lagos, so if you have settled on Albuferia, which sounds sensible with a 16 year old wouldn't have been any good.
Haven't stayed myself but when I was considering Albuferia I thought the Brisa Sol apartments looked OK as they were halfway between the old town and the new town, which seemed a good location. One of the downsides for us is they looked more suitable for 3 than 4 but they might suit as you are a party of 3.
There is another apartment complex that also might be worth investigating that could have other teens called clube praia de oura - hope I spelt that right - might be worth putting them in google and seeing what comes up as I think they both have there own web-sites as they are well established complexes.
If you want a package I think thomson/Portland do the Brisa Sol.

I'm still keen to go back to the Algarve if I could find something that would suit us with 2 teens in tow (18 and 17) .The Paraiso de Albuferia (A/I or SC) as Chris has suggested appears to be in a good location with plenty going on . Direct holidays have it for next year ,not sure about this year. it's not particularly cheap but then I've been to turkey for the last few years where accomodation seems to be cheaper . You may get it down by booking some budget flights and accomodation direct if they still have availability for this year.
