Have to disagree with you on that point. Most tour operators have had their 2010 holidays on sale for many weeks now. We are going to the Costa Brava next year and by booking early got a good price for full board plus and that included a free kid.

But, to travel during the school holiday is always a lot more expensive. If you have 4 or more in your family I'd suggest you get in early before all the family rooms and free kids places are taken. For example, we went to Crete in 2008 and paid £2600 for 2 weeks all inclusive by booking a year in advance. Closer to the time the cost had jumped to £3800 due to the fact we would need 2 rooms which meant both kids paying adult prices.

2010 have been on sale with thomson since July lots of places we have looked at that had free child places this year dont have them for next year.

We are a week back from the Ereso in Es cana but thomson are showing no free child places for next year August and the price has jumped up massively because of this.

We have booked with FC for the algarve 2 weeks half board next August for £1,934 inc free child - exact same holiday with thomsons £2863 so worth it to keep price checking between companies - our flight is a thomson one too so can't figure why thomson are charging almost a thousand pounds more than first choice for the same holiday - baffling!

I fully expected the price to be higher for the school holidays but this year I feel that there are far less free child places around.

For instance, Portland are only doing one property with free child places from Cardiff (the Nana beach in Crete) - last year there were a few to choose from.

I always book a year in advance and to test my theory have priced up holidays from June right through till October to see if there are any bargains around - there aren't any - nothing less than 2k for a family of 4 on AI anywhere, at any time.

I'm sure the prices are generally higher for 2010.

The tour ops tend to add free places when the market is slowing down, just keep an eye on the prices keep checking them and when they come to the price you want to pay book it. Just before Christmas is a good time as most folk are busy spending on pressents and the market tends to slump then.

Also a lot of the accomadation only prices aren`t out yet, keep an eye on them as well as the flights and you may be able to get a good price doing a diy holiday.

Sunset (Thomas Cook) appear to have free child places.

We are paying £1250 for 2 adults and our 14yr old son for the last 2 weeks in July in Portinax. He was free and I have seen plenty of other free child places with them over the last 3/4 weeks.

I dont think it is too early, just have a good look around before the free child places disappear which I am sure they will do pretty soon!!
