Hi,
I was hopeing that you might be able to help with a little advice/info for my mum and dad. They normally go to Kalamaki in Zante and have been there for the past 5 years, next year they are looking to try somewhere different!!! however, need the same type of resort as Kalamaki i.e. nice restaurants, some shops they can walk round in the evening, a nice beach would be nice, not too far from an airport, not a young and lively resort or somewhere too large and busy. Hope you can help also any info on any small family run hotels would be bril. (they are late 60`s and normally holiday in early June).
Any info and advice would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks
Now a 5* All Inclusive. Booked with Hellenic Voyages and Very reasonable.
Its very close to Rhodes town and many restaurants, a place well worth a visit.
I'm hoping to go in September, but lots of work to do in the garden.
Parky
Lovely place Ill be retiring there in 25 years and opening a hotel for people just like me who want peace tradition and a few ouzos!!!
Hope they find a nice place
Hi Chelseagirl. Are you joking? I would never in a million years say that Skiathos is untouched. Had you said Lesvos, Kefalonia or Parga I might be inclined to agree.
We are slightly younger than your parents and enjoyed Kalamaki about five years ago.
Since then we have been to Pefkos in Rhodes twice and that is a similar type of resort. Good Tavernas and not too noisy and a good beach. There is a good website "Friends of Pefkos" which would be useful for them to check out.
Lassi or Skala in Keffalonia are also good.
I visited Pefkos about 10years ago, about 2 tavernas, one shop and a couple of small hotels. So it will most probably be a nice size now.
Its strange peoples different impressions isnt it? I dont think Gefalonia is a particulary nice Island and has been spoilt by tourism - Never mind everyone to their own and thank goodness theres so many islands to choose from!
Surprised to hear you say that Kefalonia has been spoilt by tourism. We didn`t find it that way.
Lesbos is the place to go. Either Anaxos or Petra the resorts to stay in if you want decent beaches. However by staying there you are close enough to Molyvos for the bars and restuarants in the evening. Hire a car and enjoy the unspoilt pleasures of the rest of the Island...Vitara, Scala Erressos and Scala Kalloni.
Amazing difference of opinions on Skiathos and Kefalonia. Both islands have touristy resorts but this dos'ent spoil the whole island. Kefalonia is a spectacular island and big enough never to feel crowded. Skiathos probably appeals more to a younger crowd but its not a lager lout island and it has plenty of great beaches and good for trips to the other Sporades and the Pelion.
Thanks everyone, they are still looking. I bet they go back to Kalamaki.......for the 6th time,
We stayed at Grapevines in Alykanas, Zante, 15th-29th May this year. Went with First Choice. I think your parents would love this area, the apartments are all Studios & so it is mostly couples of more their age who stay here. It is about 5 mins walk from Restaurants & Shops & 15 mins walk to a lovely Beach. If you go onto a certain website apertaining to the Island & look at the reports, you will find them very favorable. For obvious reasons, i am unable dislose actual website name !!!
Alykanas Restaurants we can recommend, Alkyonis Tavern, Kostas Bar, Dionysos, Greedy Greek, Romanza, La Caretta, Mantelena, Poseidon & Paradosaiko(on main road to Alykes). There are many more but time ran out for us !! Tell them to go on the Greek Night by Train, well worth it. Les.
I can safely say, that at long last, i have been able to post my report about Grapevines Apartments on HT, also click on Resort Reports for Zante, click on Alikanas as opposed to Alykanas(which is proper spelling !!!!), i've submitted a comprehensive report. Hope you find it useful.
Thanks Cruisecontroller, we went to Alykanas 2 years ago, we thought it was OK, but not as nice as Kalamaki or Tsilivi. Don`t think it would be for Mum and Dad, but thanks anyway.
