Breakfast inclusive of tea / coffee and a fruit juice, appx Rs 150 to 175 per person
Lunch / Dinner with starter, maincourse, dessert appx Rs 350 to 400 per person
Drinks, KF pint in season, Rs 35. Wine bottle Rs 150 upwards...
These are prices that would be more or less acurate for a regular tourist restaurant / shack in around Baga / Calangute area..
Happy days in Goa!!
Example that sticks in mind is at Little Italy (I think, the one with the big Banyan Tree). we had 4 courses, 2 bottles wine, brandies and bill was £31. Regulars will know that this is quite expensive for goa(but a very good restaurant, especially as it is meat free) so you can see that eating at less fancy places will be correspondingley cheaper. eg
starlight restaurant , baga.. 2 lime sodas 2 KFishers 2 cokes, popadoms.chappaties. 3 assorted currie dishes (veg), pickles plus complimentary nibbles and tip ...less than £4.
As far as wine goes , some people like the local "port wine" which is very cheap , but it's not something I enjoyed, but there are some quite reasonable local wines. As wifey drinks only white or rose I can't offer advice on red.
Last year we took £800 for two weeks spends and came home with £350,
this covered ALL spends food , drink taxis etc. except jewelleryand presents and we ate several nights at restaurants that we knew would be over the top
hope this helps

hi Barrie, if you manage to spend £10 per head per day on food and drink, your doing really well...:)
whatever the wine position is ( no good wine in goa) oops another topic- is that if you take £500 spending money to goa as an average for two weeks then you might be taking some home! - where in the world can you say the same?
As an example, we took a new volunteer out for a meal last night to All Spice in Apora (lovely place btw). We had...
Fresh Lime soda x 1
Honey Bee (Brandy) and Coke x 2
Bottle Water x 1
2 x Chicken dishes (tandorr - yummy!) with chips and salad
1 x tandori kingfish fillet with chips and salad
1 x cheese/garlic nan bread
3 x deserts (free with all meals) - Gulam balls (or something nice...)
All For 710 Rs/- (less than £10 for three people).
OK, we're not big drinkers, but that might give you an idea of price. It's so easy to eat out cheap, some of the local places are SO cheap, especially for veg food. All Spice is top notch food well worth a visit.
Wine... there aren't that many good wines in Goa, and they tend to be relative expenise (as they're imported). I'd stick to the spirits (£1.20 for a bottle of Brandy (Honey bee), Voka is not much more... Save the night caps until you get back to your room! ;o)
TRUE Rob - but to be on the safe side and allow for all expensies - trips - travel and shopping we usually allow for about £500 between us for two weeks and then its a bonus if we take money home - which we often do. - just noticed the original post was regarding food and drink only - guess I got carried away
I always reckon on £100 per person per week and usually take another £100 - £200 just to be safe. Never spent more than £100 per week which includes eating out every lunch and dinner time, drinks, cigs, trips, pressies etc.
Rob,
100 rupees for food, drinks seperate. Best vegie special fried rice I have had for many a year. I went about 5 years ago and had change from 100 rupees. Last Dec its gone up to the massive price of 90 rupees for a giant plate. So cheap and clean and fast. English ex pats bumming around spend 50 to 75 rupees a day. I also go to the Middas Indian curry house and that is expensive £8 to £15 for wine and its cheap stuff the food is great though and the entertainment on a night is worth it all. across the road next to the Sports bar a guy opend last year and his giant prawns are big ang cooked just right, cheap as well. Rock caffe in canlagute by the roundabout does a great steak burgette at 100 rupees and a pint of beer 75rupees. cheap lunch and cooked well. One can live well on 100 rupees a day or 5,000. This time I am going to be careful and not do a grand a time. The Rock is packed all day for many a year. Best wishes Barry from Ilford
del949... Oooh not sure about Vin Ballet, is it any good?
Vin - Ballet - is that the wine that when you have too much you start "dancing"
when we really try hard we can just about spend £ 10 a day for our food and drink.
Might be a different story if you eat in the hotel all the time, you might be able to spend, ohhh, £ 15 then
Is this a dry bar or do they serve beer?
Only dry during the election - otherwise the Honey Bee, White Mischief and Kings flow freely (and often for that matter)
andy
Rob, not a wine connosiuer (?) but the vin ballet goes down as well as cheap french plonk.
Can anyone give an idea of how much a daily spend is now, as this details are a few years old now.
at night went to sweet chilli, had bottle wine, cocktails, beers, pop, spirits, 4 starters 4 mains (we had lot to drink) cost £15, and the wine was chardonnay!!
As for wine, we had a super bottle at J&A's both times we went. It's not that expensive, can't remember exactly but it was less than you would pay at home. We brought a bottle home, purchased at the local supermarket, to try on friends, and typically, when you get it home it isn't the same. In fact it was awfull !
