Sorry Aslemma ,
I know you go quite often though, you will have better weather next time. I'm looking at next May for another week, fourth time to PEK.
Love Elsa x x x x
You're forgiven Elsa. I believe May is usually wonderful but unfortunately I can't go after the first week because I invigilate exams from mid May until the end of June. My next trip will probably be in about October, when it is still nice.
thanks for all your help, we leave first thing tomorrow for Luton
Any last minute do's and dont's ?
Just three things to remember - relax, barter and enjoy. Have a wonderful time and if you could bring back a little warmth and sunshine I'm sure we would all be grateful.
Anyone who is going to the above hotels
Dont worry
Quite simply the best holiday I've had in 40 years.
Corridors need a slap of paint but
Room Exellent
Hotel Exellent
Staff absolutely amazing
Bars (reception, sister, pool beach ) brilliant
Restaurant ; top notch (never ate the same thing twiceover 14 days)
Beer very drinkable
Wine ditto
local spirits (brandy) fine
anyone who says you cannot get drunk in Tunisia, should have seen me climbing up the stairs at night
Sister hotel : also free beer
Best 1200 notes I've spent and no doubt about returning in the future.
Irish Bar in Hammam Sousse about as Irish as Hirohito
If you dont enjoy this holiday, you must be a pretty miserable person.
Only complaint I heard in 14 days was
"What no beans for breakfast"
he was laughed all the way out
bought a crackin leather jacket
paid £70 which I thought was a fair price for 3/4
didn't see the point in screwing the local traders, they have to earn a living.
Wife spent loads, all good deals as far as she was concerned.
Haggle by all means, but dont nail the traders to a wall.
Shops in Marina PEK were fine, but Sousse was special
We never felt oppressed by any of the shop owners, a polite no thank you worked fine.
I'll help if I can
We will be flying from Gatwick and am told its a very short flight.
I love wine but i prefur a Rose like blossom hill anything in Tunisia match this,..and with the all inclusive does this include things like vodka.
Im not fussy will drink most things so im sure all will be ok.
Thanks again Cheryl.
The weather should still be lovely in September. Due to other commitments I doubt I can get out there again until early October but it is usually good then too. I keep wasting my time checking flight prices but they are very high still. I must really just be patient and go for a last-minute deal as accommodation is never a problem. Incidentally the flight is just under 3 hours from Gatwick.
Just wondering has anyone been to Abou Sofiane in the last couple of months?
We were there a few years ago and loved it but I noticed a few of the more recent reviews about the food arent great, just wondered has it changed drastically or are people just a lot more fussy than me?
Thinking of booking for a week Sep/Oct but can't decide between Abou Sofiane or going to Egypt AI for a week.
Thanks Leanna
I read a report about drinks here were weak and the chances of getting drunk were nil.
I quashed that rumour every night for a fortnight.
Regarding the food : If you're expecting five star you'll be disappointed, but we ate something different every night for a fortnight.
Salad bar was top draw and there was a "special" on every night.
Can highly recommend the omlette bar in the morning with a choice of ingredients that kept me happy.
Overall I thought the holiday was great, especially having access to the sister hotel (100 yards away) which made a pleasant change.
Drinks were also free in there after a discussion with front desk.
It is a quieter bar though, all the lively entertainment is in the Abou Suffaine.
Hope you enjoy your hols wherever you end up
Karl
Wow thanks for that karl,i think were in for a real good week away,..can you tell me was there any sort of meat on offer for dinner or fish, also are there any pancakes at breakfast time...?
Pork
Chicken
Veal
Octopus
Squid stew
Various fish
Quail
Roast Hog
Tunisian Stew
Leg of beef that made my eyes pop out one night. I said to the chef, yes please That'll do for me and can you put some chips on the side.
He started carving and I had to tell him to stop.
There is a Pasta Bar most nights and a Rice and couscous bar.
Pancakes ? cant remember
Puddins (or desserts if your posh)
There was a choice of between 20-30 every night.
The only complaint I made or suggestion more like was all the mixed salads included tomato which I'm not fond of.
The following night there was Three platers (no tomato)
There is a very good matre D in restaurant and if you have any suggestions or complaints he will sort within 24 hours.
He was a quality bloke who went out of his way to help anyone who made a request
He also after the first couple of days reserved the wife and I a table every evening and allocated us a waiter who looked after our every request.
I was traeted that well by all staff I left each and every one of them a good tip at the end of the holiday.
Karl
Can I just ask when you mentioned going over to the other hotel you had to see the front desk to get the drinks
was that to arrange your drinks cos at a rule they dont usually allow it?
Can I aslo ask about PEK in the evenings I am wondering whether my 12yr old girl will get bored or is there stuff for the inbetweenies to do?
do`s dont`s etc etc
places you liked ,places to avoid, blah blah blah
We've never been to Tunisia before and would be glad of any recommendations for hotels. Also does anyone know what the weather is like in November?
Right Ive now booked up to go 12th august for a week.
We are going to this hotel also on 12th August for 2 weeks . Never been to Tunisia before, always been to Spain. Judging by all the reports here i think we're in for a great holiday There's going to be 11 of us going .... celebrating the mother in laws 60th, wife's bday and my 40th on the day we come back
See you there then, Simon.
I'll answer any questions you may have.
there was plenty to do,loads of choice of food and the staff was great.
they even had a camel and 3 wise men in the reception on xmas morning.
the hotel is all inclusive and the drink was ok as far as local stuff goes,if you wanted to get drunk though you only had to go outside and it was very resonable.
the hotel also goes straight onto its own beach with nice sand...
one small fault was you had to queue for food as its buffet..
hope this helps.
