its not my charity - i'm doing some web promotion of it because i can and because its only a couple of weeks away and theres tons to be done

Whilst, of course, you could have asked first whether we would support this before making posts that could be seen as spamming.

Besides, if we allow one charity to advertise their good cause, we would be opening up the floodgates.

As you say, Google will lead people to the information.

Wasn't it the case though you posting first and then requesting it be made a "sticky" topic?

By default, any posts containing promotional material will be removed first before deciding whether they are genuine or spam.

We get hundreds of posts each day, some of which have the only intention of spamming our members.

You surely must understand, that our task is to filter these posts out

You be surprised of the content of some of the spam posts we get. You would have thought them to be genuine until you really look into it. This is not saying that your post would have been spam, you never gave us the opportunity to investigate but instead decide to throw abuse at us.

i posted the topic - after i posted it i p'm a mod and asked if they would make it a sticky

a day later i looked and it was still there, albiet wandering down (which i thought it would be without being a sticky), today i looked again and saw it had gone, - i checked numerous times today for pm's but saw nothing

so i started checking to see what had happened to the original post

the rest is history

i'd question whether spamming your members with links to external sites that have nothing to do with ibiza and "spamming" (your term) an ibiza forum about an ibiza charity are the same thing
it was 2 days and a simple google http://www.google.com/search?num=20&hl=en&newwindow=1&safe=off&q=2nd+butterfly+ball+amnesia&btnG=Search

But you fail to remember that you're using our facilities to promote the event. A little bit of courtesy would have gone a long way.

We are (and certainly have been in the past) supportive of charities.

Sometimes patience is the virtue.
