you dont normally get compensation unless you are delayed over 12 hours but check your travel insurance for undated information

Sorry to hear about your delayed flight. I think the light refreshments provided are likely to be your only compensation.

I hope that I'm not going to upset anyone there, I'm just making an observation. I have noticed on the boards that there are many people seeking compensation for delays. I can understand if someone has too over night somewhere, so they should be compensated for acc./missed flights etc.
I would think that you would be glad to sit for a couple of hours if the plane was not in working order. My family and I travel alot and on many many occasions we have had long delays. I myself don't mind waiting, yes its inconvienent but I would rather be sitting on the ground than being told in mid air the planes not working properly. When the delays were longer that 5 hours they have bought us lucnh/dinner. We have also had the luck to meet some really interesting people during those delays. We have just always chalked these things up to lumps and bumps of travelling!

Hi margimops
early this year an eec wide change to the regulations came into force to
1) try and make airlines more punctual
2) make all airlines leagaly resposible (with a few exceptions)for the care of their passengers

it's worth reading click on the link in luci's post and then see what you think

I don't want to hijack this post.

Thanks Brian that is interesting reading. My last flight to Aust. was delayed 6 hours, at the time I was only concerned with getting to my fathers funeral on time. I will keep that in information in mind when I'm travelling again.
I'm not disagreeing, people should be compensated for lose of monies, overnighters etc. Its just that if everyone claims for a couple of hours. What happens to the price and more importantly the safety of the planes.

margiemops - very sensible outlook. Travelling is an adventure and delays at times are inevitable. I like your "cool and chilled" outlook - guess there is no point getting wound up over a small delay and letting it ruin your holidays/trip.

:D Hi everyone, I remember when we were delayed for 5 hours coming back from gran canaria. (Should have flown at 11.30, but flew out at 4.30), and I would have loved to have felt chilled, and to be able to engage in conversation with my fellow passangers, but when you have young, bored, tired (Understandably), children with you, the last thing you feel is chilled. I really feel for you ron, to have been delayed all that time. BBB

Maybe I'm one of the lucky ones. My kids have been travelling since they were babies. Strangely enough, at home they were and are really wild. Put them in an airport/plane they travelled like angels. We always had a pack of cards. pencil papers with us and if there were really long delays nothing like bribing them with buying a new game at the shop.
I do feel for parents on delays. Being delayed is not nice, sometimes uncomfortable and often you have to make the best of it
