You might be better at looking for hotels that have some form of waterpark attached to keep your older boy entertained, take a look at
Aqublu Sharm http://aquablusharm.co.uk/index.html
Tropicana Sea Beach http://tropicanagroupegypt.com/Hotels.aspx?HID=4&LangID=1
Coral Sea Splash http://www.coralsearesorts.com/Hotel_ViewDetails.asp?Type=1&ID=4

We were at the Sonesta Club a few years ago and although not a huge waterpark such as those above more just some slides it was fine, there are also some small water slides etc for the younger ones and the hotel was nice http://www.sonesta.com/SharmClub/
Some pictures I took there http://travel.webshots.com/slideshow/562327695PjcSAV
Welcome to HT. I think Grahams suggestions are great but just wanted to add another one that might be worth researching - the Hilton Sharks Bay.
You get access to two hotels here Sharks Bay 1 and Sharks Bay 2 & these hotels get a fair amount of British guests which means if all other entertainment fails there should at least be a chance of them meeting other English speaking teens to chum up with.
Also it is within walking distance of somewhere called Soho Square that they might like as it has an ice rink and a row of shops you can wander around.
Another thing they might be interested in is somekind of introduction to scuba course.

I will check out the hotels you have both recommended. Waterpark sounds a good idea to keep them occupied.
We were thinking about the scubadiving - I know my husband fancies trying it too.
When you have narrowed it down to a few possibles that are in your price range, post with the hotel names and even if we haven't stayed at them, a few of us know the Sharm area quite well, so maybe able to tell you what is/isn't in the area of your hotel, how far it is from the main hubs, airport etc
One of my favourites at the moment is the Aqua Blu as it seems to have a lot going on and the attached waterpark would be ideal for my boys. especially like the idea that we could pop to use the slides whenever we wished.
I have read the reviews on here and most are good (one or two complaints but you yet that with most hotels).
Has anyone been there or can those of you who have been in the area let me have your thoughts on it. We would also like to do some snorkelling/scuba (never tried it before). is this a good location for it.
Also has anyone seen any good deals for this hotel recently.
thanks
Maybe your boys would enjoy a waterpark? If so, look at Iberotel Makadi Saraya in Makadi bay. They have their own waterpark, free entrance, free transport and AI food and drink.
Can't really add much, but I've only heard good things about Egypt, kids are excited, it's our first "abroad" family holiday.
That is one of the hotels we have been looking at. Looks like lots to do there. bet you can't wait. A great holiday for your first time away.
'Tomahawk' we have booked to go there next august, and there appear to be no reviews of that hotel on here, so it would be great if you could add one when you get back.
