Do you know what board you would like to go? Just that that may affect where people would recommend. :)

Hi Sunaholic,

We are not sure, we did think about 4-5 star all inclusive, but began to worry that we would feel tied to the resort and might not like the food, so we have began to think about self catering or bed and breakfast and hiring a car and exploring the destination we choose.

But not certain on any level of board, we could be swayed anyway if someone could recommend a excellent hotel and destination.

Thanks

Hiya,

As soon as I read your post 'olu deniz' in Turkey sprung to mind straight away. It is a lovely quiet resort with good beaches(their is a few too choose from) and I am sure scuba diving is on offer. There are plenty of hotels ranging from B&B to all inclusive on offer, but personally I would not go A/L in Turkey as it is so reasonable to eat out and lots of international food too choose from. If you want a good night out , you can go into hisaronu which is quite lively(and easy to reach by dolmus or taxi) and fetiye is excellent for shopping, sightseeing and sampling some turkish food (loads of cheap cafes were the locals eat)
Their are numerous boat trips out from olu deniz to 'butterfly valley' etc and dolmus trips to kalkan and a gorge (i think it begins with s).
My husband and I spent a week in this area and had a fantastic time, a really chilled out hol, we went 2nd week in october and the weather was lovely, about the temp you were looking for.

Let me know how you get on with your search

Olu Deniz is lovely - we went there this August. You can make it as lively or as peaceful as you like - the local people are lovely, and you should be able to get some nice accomodation within a reasonable budget, go out in the evenings to a good choice of bars and restaurants and still have money to book some great excursions with the local agents. We did the 'Butterfly Valley/St Nicholas Island' Boat Trip, and also the Dalyan River Cruise/Mud Bath/Turtle Beach trip, and also a jeep safari which took us to Tlos, Saklikent Gorge and Patara Beach. We had a lovely holiday although it was a bit too hot in August for my liking (high 40°s Centigrade and humid) but the locals all said it's lovely in May/June and September.

Egypt sounds nice, and looks lovely in the brochures, all new hotels in purpose-built resorts - might be worth a look.

Personally, I'm a huge fan of the Canary islands, and if you want to get away from the 18-30s crowds then Playa Blanca in Lanzarote is nice 8)

Cheers for the suggestion, but I've heard women get hassled quiet a lot in Turkey, is this true and how extreme is it.

Cheers,

I'm a single mum, and I had no problems whatsoever - the Turkish gentlemen are polite and respectful. Every afternoon I would walk from the hotel to the shop around the corner to get my newspaper, usually wearing just a bikini and sarong, and the only hassle I got was to buy perfume/jewellery/handbags etc - the usual hassle which everybody gets anywhere where there are shops in Turkey  (I think they hassle women more to buy stuff, because they know us girls love to shop)
Seriously, you will have a fantastic time in Olu Deniz and you will be treated with respect and courtesy, both individually or as a couple.

Don't worry, the days of men hassling women in Turkey are long gone, from my experience anyway.

They are superbly friendly, they want you to go in their bars, restaurants and shops but that's as far as the hassle goes, and a polite no is absolutely fine by them.

I have found that when I've travelled with girl pals or alone that I feel far safer in Turkey than in Greece, where I and friends have all experienced hassle.

Anyway, wherever you go if you're in a couple you will both be welcomed.
