call me cynical but unless your flying with hand luggage only, you still have to que up to drop your baggage off.

Sort of defeats the point really!

Although it says you can use the business class check in desk(s), so maybe it is useful.

Not really when you see that there are rarely any queues at the web-check in baggage drop......just remember that you need to find a pc with attached printer when performing this in Malta...(these are like hens-teeth in the net cafes)

One of the main advantages of web check-in with Air Malta or British Airways (or in fact any non low service carrier) is that you can choose your seat 24 hours before hand. With British Airways, you can choose your seat when you book the flight - even if it's weeks/months away but you have to be a frequent flyer for that service. Otherwise it's 24hrs before departure.

This facility doesn't exist for the low service airlines such a Ryan Air or Easyjet where you have to join the stampede of cattle to get on the aircraft due to no seat allocation service :)

Air Malta to raise Gatwick capacity

Air Malta is to raise capacity from Gatwick in the shoulder months of November and March.

Flight frequency will go up from a daily service to nine flights a week.

An additional flight will also be added over the peak Christmas travelling period.

The airline also plans to use larger aircraft on the route for the remaining winter months.

Air Malta is to increase frequency for summer 2010 from 12 to 14 weekly flights.

The measures are described as the first steps to ensure that Malta has sustainable seat capacity available to the London area for the next 18 months.

Chief commercial officer Brock Friesen said: "This is line with the airline's commercial strategy to extend the summer season and reduce the traditional traffic slowdown between the summer and winter months.

"The additional shoulder traffic will bolster the local tourism industry during this challenging period.

"Gatwick airport is one of most attractive London airports vis-à-vis leisure short break traffic that requires frequent and convenient schedules. Air Malta is committed to offer both all year round."
