Hi Guy's
Im reading some nasty things about the egyptian's at the airport, what with suitcases and having to pay for trolley's etc. Any tips as we are first timers to Egypt!
Thanks

We fly to Taba, and I always keep hold of my case and just say no thankyou when they try to carry it. They're fine with it. I've heard its only about £1 if they do carry them.
They guys putting them on the coach sometimes ask too... I give them 50p for four cases, just to make sure they put them on
As for toilets, we always carry a pocket full of tissue and a little container of the antiseptic gel...
We have flown into Taba & Sharm, as we have wheels on our cases we don't bother with trolleys anyway. A polite but firm no thank you seems to work, but in any case £1 Sterling seems to be the norm. As for the toilets, it's a bit hit and miss whether anyone asks for money, just make sure you have tissues on you. Again, a small tip is hardly going to break the bank, and as my other half pointed out we do have pay loos in the UK so what's the difference? I wouldn't worry too much about the Egyptians we have always found them to be friendly and courteous, in fact more so than a lot of other nationalities. Enjoy your holiday.
Thanks Kosh and Psychobabble,
have experienced luxor, sharm and hurghada airports.... these airports have someone outside the toilet selling toilet paper before you enter... if you dont have a supply of tissues and object to this, go before you land! Like some other airports there is a charge for trolleys. Also, you may be approached by Egyptians wanting coins changed for notes - I always oblige, as they cant change their tips of coins in banks, only notes. Luxor airport was worth paying someone a £1 to take cases, as it was an up and over step job to get to the buses if I remember correctly.
Luggage trolleys are free of charge at Cairo Airport and I have heard that they are supposed to be free at the other airports.
Not that I ever use them, but I think trolleys are free, certainly at Luxor, Sharm and Taba airports. Maybe things have changed?
