Hi Andrew,

August is high season, and when all the Portuguese take their holidays, you will be looking at more like £450 a week I am afraid. The September week might be a bit cheaper. I suggest you book something straight away.

Have you tried any of the following

http://www.freedomdirect.co.uk

http://www.findmeaccom.com

http://www.hotelopia.co.uk

http://www.travelrepublic.co.uk

http://www.wsh.com

I used the last one for my self catering accommodation in Lagos last year and they were fine to book with (ie when I got there the apartments were expecting us and they had us down for a pool view which I had paid extra for). But they were not the cheapest so try some of the others as well.

Good Luck, but am not confident that you will get two weeks for 450 as Perry says its peak season. Let us know how you get on.

I don't know about privately owned apartments but you might take a look at some of the well-known self-catering apartment complexes.

Brisa Sol is about 10 minutes walk from both strip and beach (old town beaches) - large apartments recently refurbished with two large supermarkets within 100 yards.

Albufeira Jardim is nearer the old town beaches but a bus or taxi ride from the Strip. A bit more basic but you pays your money...

People I know have stayed in both during 2007, no real bad comments.

You must book early as that last week of August (just before schools go back) is one of the busiese all year down here.

There are many others in which I am sure members have stayed and can recommend.

If you want to be near the strip and the beach, the Santa Eulalia Beach Club Hotel is £461 if you book through Travelrepublic and use the 'getsomesun' code.

Thanks for all your help and suggestions. I ended up booking the Auramar for £547 for us B+B for the 2 weeks. Some bad reviews, some great reviews, most bad commenting on lack of choice for All Inclusive food, lack of entertainment and poor decor, but for location and views, price also, this seemed great!

Can't wait to go now :D

Hi
The Auramar is fine providing you accept it for what it is,a 3 star hotel.Rooms are ok,all the things you would want to eat for breakfast are available, and then some, and location and views are excellent.
Have a great holiday
