Hi Nick, I have some pictures of Albufeira beaches & old town on my website which may be helpful, THE STRIP area is the new side of Albufeira with lots of bars & restaurants mainly for the younger end & the Old Town is brilliant also with lots of bars, restaurants & late night venues. There is also other information within my website which may be of interest to you in choosing your holiday. Hope you decide on the Algarve its a wonderful place, maybe other members of forum have photos of beaches etc also they can gen you up on. Cheers Jayjan

Hi Nick,

I've just put some photos of the Old Town and its beaches on the What to See, Where to Go thread above.

Sounds like you've got it about right with your ideas about Albufeira - just bear in mind it has all the nightlife you could wish for in the newer areas, including the Strip, and a slightly more family-oriented atmosphere (although still very lively in the high season) in the Old Town.

Have a great holiday!

You too, Chris! Lucky you!

I also have some pictures, however I am not the most computer literate person, so bear with me and I might manage to bring them up somewhere but god only knows where they will end up.

We have booked to stay at the Balaia atlantico for a week on a room only basis was wondering if anyone has stayed there on an all inclusive basis and if it's worth upgrading?

I have to declare an interest as a bar owner, but others will tell you there are lots of great bars and restaurants, and you will regret not giving yourself the opportunity to try them. We had a couple out this week on half board, and while the restaurant in the hotel was good, they ended up eating out on three nights when they saw the quality available. Also, not to put to fine a point on it, we all need the custom after a couple of tough years. The hotel are making from your residence - spread your love around a bit! :love2

I would wholeheartedly agree with Algarveaddick's comments and recommend that you don't tie yourself to one hotel for all your meals etc. In Albufeira, as in the rest of the Algarve, there is a huge choice of first class restaurants and bars, mostly with prices considerably cheaper than the U.K. and I think you'll regret not having the opportunity to sample them. When we first visited the Algarve many years ago we booked Half board, but ever since ( and we go two or three times a year, every year ) have booked only B/B and are still finding brilliant new bars and restaurants.
Whatever you choose, have a great time. :)

I always choose to go self catering whenever I go away. I think finding and experiencing nice restaurants (and bars) is one of the most enjoyable parts of my holiday. Can't really understand why people choose to go half/full board in resorts like Albufeira, taking all their meals in the same place, when there are so many other options in the resort itself. I'm spending a week in Albufeira in June and will be enjoying a different restaurant each night. I've managed to find plenty of recommendations for a nice evening meal but not so much on the best places to get a quick snack. Can anyone suggest anywhere?

Thanks

Always book self catering every holiday. there are so many lovely places to eat,try something different each night, also nice bars to sit and people watch.

steve mcr,
For a quick snack - toasties etc. - why not visit Floyd's Bar and meet Algarveaddick; you're sure of a good welcome and a good pint.
P.S. One tip:- don't mention the football.
