Hi

We went to Alcudia 3 yr ago and are now going back this year in September with our one year old. First time we went, we never went out 4 meals mainly just went for drinks on evening. There are quite a few bars and 2 night clubs there. It depends whether you want boozy holiday or quiet one.

It depends where you are stopping as well as some hotels in Alcudia are quite far from the centre.

We made sure this year we were right on beach and near centre

It depends what you like to do? I like nothing better than having a wander around the old town of Alcudia and sitting having a coffee in one of the squares.

But you also have the hidropark nearby and there is lots to do in Puerto Alcudia!

Can you guys recommend a nice, smallish family hotel near to beach and resort centre and buses to old town, but in a quiet location at night? I'm travelling May half term, just me and my 9 year old son, and looking for somewhere safe, HB, authentic Spanish, with quality entertainment but not tacky or noisy, and a pool.

That's quite a difficult list to match. The "authentic Spanish" threw me most. In that mostly all hotels in Alcúdia are owned by Spanish (Majorcan) companies or families, I guess they are authentic. Options - Paraiso de Alcudia, on the beach, close to the main tourism centre but not on top of it; Orquidea Playa, also on the beach, further down the coast away from that tourism centre by about 5 minutes or so. Estrella de Mar or Coral de Mar in the port area. For buses, none of these is far from a bus stop. In the case of hotels in the port area, it isn't that far to walk into the old town.
From what you say, I'd rule out any hotel right in the main tourist centre and also possibly somewhere like the Viva Tropic (port area), though this is a popular family hotel.

Thanks Andrew, those are really helpful. Estrella / Coral de Mar is top of my list if I can get a late deal, so I'll trust your judgement on the others. There are a couple I've not seen elsewhere so I'll check those out!
