Hi
Off to Alikanas on the 11th May, can anybody recommend any good restaurants. I love Greek food, but my 6 year old daughter is a little less adventurous (if you have typical kids you know what I mean). Any recommendations would be appreciated. We are staying at the Alikanas Beach studios and apartments.
Thanks
Dumbo
I wouldn't worry about the restaurants. When we were there a couple of years ago we never had a bad meal anywhere we tried. The resort centre on the main road is not large and you can take your time looking at the menus before deciding where to eat that night. A couple of names that I can remember are Dionysis, Mantalena and the Greedy Greek. There are also lots of restaurants in Alykes a couple of miles down the road. Your daughter would probably enjoy the horse drawn carriage ride between the two resorts in the evening (if they still do it!)
Hi you will have a great time alikannas is lovely there are quite a few different restaurants the greedy greek is huge and does a wide variety of food, there is plenty of places to choose from and they all do spag bol which very kid loves!!! i have a little one and we didnt find it a problem and he was only 2, we didnt need to go into alykes as found lots of different places to eat in alikannas the alikannas beach where your staying is lovely my parenst stayed there when they went a couple of years ago and couldnt fauly it. have a great time
In addition to those restaurants mentioned, we used Kostas, Romanza, Apollo, Cosy Corner, La Caretta, Poseidon, Alkyonis Tavern(not sure if this is still going) and Paradosaiko which is located on the road between Alykanas and Alikes, easy walking distance. There is a train/wally trolley does a little tour daily, it takes you out to a village, on a saturday night this village puts on a Greek Night and the train takes you up there but you must Book early in the week to be sure of getting a place. If you fancy going on an overnight excursion to Athens, then contact local tour operator Dionisos/Tez and ask if Costas will be doing the guideing, he was excellent.
We had 2 weeks at the Alykanas Beach last August. Not our usual choice of accommodation (large by Greek standards) but our son enjoyed it and for this reason so did we :tup. We used to walk into Alykes most nights where there were some nice bars and restaurants. I think one of our favourites was called the 'Picadilly'? To be truthful, we didn't have one bad meal in 2 weeks in both resorts.
We were there for a week in October. 2 Adults and 3 young kids. Ate at the Greedy Greek 6 out of the 7 nights. Not usual for me as I like to eat around (as they say). However, staff very friendly, great with the kids, they have a large bouncy castle in the restaurant which meant much more peaceful meals for the adults, greek dancing 2 or 3 times a week. I even got up which was a first. Meals then where 5 euros a head and after day one we also got a giffafe or wine or two thrown in for good measure. Meals were good, deserts were wonderful, atmosphere was superb. Wish I was there now instead of looking outside at the rain!
It's been about 5 years since we last went to Alikanas but we thought the Lemon Tree was a lovely restaurant which we went to by the horse drawn carriage - sure your daughter will love that.
Update to my post of two ago. Just discovered that the Greedy Greek is up for sale. It would seem that last year was very, very quiet for the resort. Not good news. There is a school of thought that the big companies push people into the big hotels and the little apartments suffer.
