Has anyone stayed in this area and what's your opinion please.
Thanks
We have stayed in Albir (next resort along to Altea). We much prefer Altea to the likes of Benidorm. There is a nice prom, small harbour and nice bars, however the beach is a shingle beach. There is a church on the top of the hill from which the views from the top are very good. Altea is nice without being too touirsty and you get a good mix of nationalities.
If you like walking you can walk along the seafront from Altea to Albir. From Albir there is a lovely walk through a protected area to the lighthouse, the views on this walk are beautiful.
We visited Altea and Albir on a day trip this year to see how it had changed from our last visit 9 years ago. We thought Altea had improved with the nice prom they had built, but felt Albir had been spoilt by the building work that had gone on there. The only exception being a new hotel on the seafront called the Albir Cactus this was a really nice hotel in an excellent position.
It is easy to get local buses into Benidorm if you wish to visit (1.40 euro each way) and there is also a train station in Altea from which trains go to many places such as Alicante and Denia.
Hope this information is of use to you.
Many thanks Vonmac
We stayed in nearby Albir 4 years ago in private apartments, we had a lovely holiday. Whilst we love Benidorm, we did enjoy Albir and it was great to be able to visit Benidorm whenever we wanted. We found it very relaxing and a prety resort. On a night the sea front had craft stalls so it was lovely to wander along. From Albir we walked into Altea, it took around 30 mins and was a pleasant walk. The marina is the first bit you see when arriving, then there is a lovely sea front with bars and restaurants, prices are not as competative as Benidorm but the Restaraunts look very inviting. At the back is the shops. We always have a ride into Altea when staying in Benidorm we usualy go by train and catch the bus back depends on where were staying in Benidorm.
Many thanks Chris
